Company Overview Children’s Law Center is a mission‑driven organization focused on providing high‑quality legal services to children and families in DC. Program Description The Social Work team clinically consults and collaborates with attorneys in the Guardian ad Litem (GAL), Families Together, and Healthy Together programs. We provide trauma‑informed assessments, recommendations, and advocacy that support attorneys’ investigative and advocacy efforts while addressing systemic injustices. Job Summary The Social Worker is a master’s‑level, licensed clinician who serves as a key member of a multidisciplinary team. They consult and collaborate with attorneys, assess and provide recommendations on trauma, attachment, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, caregiving capacity, and human development. They develop social‑work goals, manage task lists, review progress quarterly, and educate attorneys and other professionals through individual case consultations and trainings. Role Responsibilities Consultation Clinically review cases and consult with attorneys on neglect, education, custody, housing, and other legal matters. Respond to attorney requests for case consultation. Schedule, prepare for, and participate in meetings, developing assessments and recommendations. Initiate and conduct case reviews on new and existing legal cases, issuing spot, developing assessments, and providing recommendations. Provide ethical and competent documentation and recommendations to attorneys in a timely fashion. Collaboration Respond to attorney referrals within 24 business hours. Schedule, prepare for, and participate in initial meetings. Collaborate with attorneys to identify social‑work goals and review updates quarterly. Provide independent comprehensive assessments and observations. Provide proactive, strategic, clinical recommendations and advocacy. Assist in coordinating therapeutic services. Conduct interviews with key case members and participate in meetings. Engage and strengthen internal and external professional teams in the interest of clients. Provide informal and formal clinical advocacy, including phone calls, team meetings, and court hearings; testify in court as needed. Complete quarterly Social Work Goal Reviews by due date. Supervision Attend regular supervision sessions and participate in case strategy discussions. Provide observations, formal assessments, social work goal reviews, and substantial documentation for supervisor feedback. Report any difficulties in fulfilling client or CLC obligations promptly. Attend mandatory group supervision and present cases or topics when assigned. Engage in peer supervision as appropriate and model ethical professional practice. Demonstrate self‑reflection regularly and consider the influence of bias, values, and experience on practice. Report social‑work and legal ethics conflicts to the supervisor immediately. Internal Teaming Ensure regular meetings with attorneys on collaboration cases. Establish communication guidelines with attorneys. Provide timely feedback to attorneys and resolve conflicts. Complete required feedback forms. Adhere to internal policies and procedures on multidisciplinary teaming. Social Work Program Obligations Maintain accurate, timely data entry and document storage in CLC’s case management system. Participate in all required trainings, meetings, and other CLC events, including but not limited to: Individual supervision Group supervision Internal trainings (when relevant and/or mandatory) Legal program staff meetings (when relevant and/or mandatory) CLC staff meetings Practice groups and other internal committees Obtain and maintain appropriate social‑work licenses as required for case practice. Follow all required CLC policies. Provide support to CLC’s policy and appellate teams in addressing systemic needs of clients. Conduct internal and external training as needed. Contribute to the improvement of Social Work Program policies, procedures, and practice. Supervise social‑work students at the Bachelors and Masters level as needed. Professional Development Review core social‑work competencies to guide professional practice. Set annual goals and review them quarterly to direct professional development. Work to achieve annual goals and incorporate supervisory feedback to improve case performance and capacity. Identify and attend continuing education trainings that strengthen knowledge and practice relevant to cases and duties. Other Duties Other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Experience One or more years of experience working with children and families. Valid driver’s license. Master of Social Work from a CSWE‑approved school or university. Passing ASWB score or social‑work license in any state and eligibility for District of Columbia and Maryland reciprocity; both DC and Maryland licenses are required for this position. Preferred Qualifications Experience with issues impacting children and families, such as substance abuse, mental health, adoption, domestic violence, grief and loss, or related topics. Experience working within the legal system and/or client advocacy. Specialized knowledge or training in trauma and attachment principles. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams. Experience with assessments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to build and maintain productive and ethical relationships with diverse groups, including in conflictual environments. Ability to be flexible, manage time, and organize effectively. Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively. Astute observation, critical thinking, and creative problem‑solving skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus. Organizational Competencies Cultural humility – openness to self‑reflection and understanding diverse cultural experiences.
