Process Engineer, EPI
Tower Semiconductor
Job Description We are seeking a Process Engineer to drive the optimization, stability, and continuous improvement of our diffusion and epitaxy (DIFF/EPI) operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical integrity of wafer fabrication processes, serving as the primary point of accountability for process health, yield optimization, and equipment performance. You will act as a key technical resource, collaborating cross-functionally to troubleshoot complex issues, execute process characterization, and lead projects that enhance manufacturing capability. This position requires a balance of hands‑on technical execution and analytical problem‑solving to meet our stringent quality and throughput targets. Take ownership of the processes assigned and establish the direction for improvements, sustaining, and overall operation. Work closely with process and integration engineers to improve process metrics, such as SPC, yield, parametrics, and defects, as well as to achieve first-pass success of technology transfers. Selection and qualification of semiconductor processing tools. Monitor fab metrics with statistical process control (SPC). Root cause investigation of discrepant material. Implement yield and defect improvement projects. Write operating specifications and provide technical training to wafer fab personnel. Work with equipment engineering to improve uptime, tool utilization, and flexibility. Troubleshoot process and tool excursions. Identify cost savings opportunities and drive projects to reduce overall costs. Implement advanced process control to improve Cpk at critical levels. Ensure matching of newly installed equipment to support production ramp. Develop new semiconductor manufacturing processes using design of experiments (DOE). Harden fault detection and classification (FDC) strategy in the areas of responsibility. This Job Is For You If You thrive on problem-solving and possess the analytical mindset required to diagnose complex equipment/process interactions and develop data-driven solutions You are a collaborative lead who can effectively communicate technical requirements and coordinate efforts between engineering departments and production staff You are technically proficient with hands‑on experience in tool setup, calibration, diagnostic testing, and the interpretation of complex metrology/device data You value precision and are disciplined in your approach to data collection, experimental design, and technical documentation Job Requirements PhD in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field. 3+ years of professional experience in a semiconductor wafer fabrication environment (specifically in diffusion or epitaxy processes). Strong working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and common semiconductor software monitoring tools. Proven ability to design experiments, analyze data, and summarize findings for technical audiences. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and data visualization.
