Laboratory Operations Manager

The Laboratory Operations Manager will provide leadership, development, and fiscal management to multi-disciplinary clinical services for a 580+bed hospital.Will assist with leadership of the Laboratory department services in collaboration with the Laboratory Director.Works cooperatively and closely with other Laboratory team members and with other departments and individuals outside the Laboratory. Other responsibilities include but not limited to: Serves in the capacity of Director in the Director’s absence. Select, interview, hire and retain employees. Approve payroll and is responsible for accurate payment to employees, including other management positions. Maintains an up-to-date laboratory compliance plan that is representative of current regulatory requirements. Comply with accreditation agency standards, FDA, CLIA and other regulatory entities as required Works with the System Compliance Officer to ensure laboratory billing is accurate. Assists the Administrative Director and Lab leadership in maintaining an accurate system for tracking costs. Job Summary: Responsible for the management and administrative functions for the laboratory. Responsible for policy development and implementation, regulatory compliance and quality assurance. Supervision is exercised over laboratory supervisors, clinical staff and support staff. Skill Requirements: Managing and authoring processes and procedures Training and presenting technical information to staff QA/QC of the departments Fiscal and budgeting responsibilities Responsibilities include but not limited to: Evaluating laboratory operations consulting with pathologists; reporting results according to protocols mandated by the hospital and public health department Ensuring maintenance of medical laboratory equipment performance by developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair Maintaining medical laboratory supplies inventory, determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies Maintaining laboratory productivity, monitoring workload, identifying peak and slack periods Participating in the hospital quality assurance program; consulting with pathologists; performing proficiency surveys; reviewing QC & QA programs Maintaining medical laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training employees, counseling, reviewing/evaluating and disciplining employees as needed Complying with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements Contributing to benchwork as needed Education, Certification, & Experience: Baccalaureate degree in clinical laboratory science or biological science MLS (ASCP) or equivalent Certification as a medical laboratory technician may be acceptable with applicable job experience and education, with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in a biological science. Five + years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting Three + years of laboratory supervisory and/or management experience Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
