Advanced CNC Process Development Engineer
Direct Hire
Blend hands-on manufacturing engineering with deep CAM/CNC programming to elevate precision, efficiency, and automation across our production floor. You’ll drive NPI readiness, refine existing processes, and integrate Industry 4.0 technologies to create scalable, high-quality outcomes.
A day in the role- Review previous shift KPIs and machine dashboards to pinpoint cycle-time and quality opportunities.
- Head to the floor to collaborate with machinists, validate fixtures, and tune programs for mills and lathes.
- Build or refine CAM toolpaths; adjust G/M-code on machines to eliminate bottlenecks.
- Prototype and validate methods for a new product introduction, including process capability and documentation.
- Meet cross-functional partners to plan an automation upgrade (robot paths, PLC logic, vision checks).
- Close the loop with root-cause analysis on a quality issue and implement corrective actions.
- Design, refine, and sustain robust processes that balance quality and cost.
- Create workflows, fixtures, tooling, and clear documentation for repeatable throughput.
- Define manufacturing methods and validation plans for new product launches.
- Lead continuous improvement to reduce cycle times, cut waste, and raise throughput.
- Develop, test, and optimize programs for mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines using CAM.
- Edit G-code/M-code and resolve programming issues directly at the machine.
- Partner with operators to sharpen strategies and increase program performance.
- Maintain structured libraries and version control for CNC programs.
- Deploy robotics, PLCs, and vision solutions to automate key steps.
- Contribute to PLC logic, robot path programming, and system integration.
- Leverage CAD/CAM, digital twins, and Industry 4.0 tools to modernize production.
- Collaborate across teams to raise the plant’s automation maturity.
- Be the go-to resource for troubleshooting manufacturing and programming issues.
- Conduct root cause analyses and drive corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor performance via data and KPIs; recommend targeted improvements.
- Coordinate with maintenance to protect uptime and equipment reliability.
- Ensure programs and processes consistently meet specifications and standards.
- Support PFMEA, control plans, and SOP development.
- Participate in audits and uphold internal/external compliance.
- Lead or support projects for equipment upgrades, new lines, and process enhancements.
- Align activities with production, quality, supply chain, and engineering stakeholders.
- Own schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–7 years in manufacturing engineering and/or CNC programming.
- Hands-on background in machining, automation, or high-volume production.
- Analytical, systematic problem solver with strong attention to detail.
- Clear communicator across technical and non-technical groups.
- Thrives independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving setting.
- Six Sigma Green Belt (or similar).
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 (IoT, MES, real-time data).
- Knowledge of toolpath optimization, cutting mechanics, high-speed machining.
- ERP/MRP familiarity.
- Experience in regulated/high-precision sectors (aerospace, medical, automotive).
