Nursing Technician

The Nursing Technician performs basic nursing care and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Education:

Ability to read and write

Experience:

Six months of related experience

Licenses and Certifications:

* Healthcare Provider (CPR)

Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled in a practical nursing program or a student currently enrolled in a professional nursing program, or previous experience working with patients, or one quarter of clinical experience as a student nurse, or successful completion of a nurse aide course, or experience from a related health care field preferred

* NOTE: BLS within 30 days

Area of Responsibilities

* Maintains required knowledge/training and functions within scope of practice. (1) Performs basic patient care attending to physical and emotional needs of the patient in a family oriented environment. (2) Documentation is in compliance with hospital policy and procedure and other regulatory agencies. (3) Effectively understands and operates basic equipment used routinely on the unit (EKG, VSM, Accucheck, etc.) (4) Demonstrates the ability to work safely and responsibly under general supervision. (5) Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of population(s) served. (6) Complies with standards set forth by The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. (7) Participates in Quality Improvement and other process(es) as requested.

Compliance Statement

* Performs no direct supervision but may be expected to instruct new employees and other nursing assistants and correct work routines according to hospital policy and procedure.
