The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our clinical research site. This role is responsible for recording monthly journal entries, completing monthly close procedures, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing monthly financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and supporting the business with financial insight into study budgets, site operations, and contracts.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals with experience in clinical trials, healthcare, or service-based industries, and a working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition.

This role will be based in our Morrisville, NC office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Prepares and maintains GL by recording monthly journal entries with sufficient support documentations providing a clear audit trail.
2. Ensures all assigned balance sheet accounts are reconciled and analyzed every month.
3. Manage cash balances and ensuring that the company has adequate levels of cash to fund their respective operating expenses
4. Set-up new agreements in NetSuite and sponsor designated platforms in conjunction with the appointed Clinical Operations "Project Manager" and Business Development team
5. Capture billing data from the Revenue Tracker, invoice sponsors on terms per the MSA, and field sponsor questions regarding billing
6. Maintain AR and Deferred Revenue account reconciliations
7. Provide updates on open AR balances and collection efforts internally
8. Monitor and fund VI activities
9. Ensure all Revenue related balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely
10. Calculate and record commission balances on a quarterly basis
11. Assist with study closeout reconciliations
12. Assist with the compilation of monthly financial results to be shared with internal and external stakeholders
13. Drive continuous improvement of financial tools, using AI and other innovative applications
14. Provide cross-functional support to the Company as needs arise, including special projects, system improvements or ad-hoc financial analyses
15. Take on ad hoc projects as requested.
16. Provide support schedules for all regulatory reporting audits
17. Build a positive, results orientated work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.
18. Ensure compliance with US GAAP.

Qualifications and Skills

The following qualifications are preferred and/or equivalent applicable experience:

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA preferred).
2. 35+ years of accounting experience; healthcare or clinical research experience a plus.
3. Strong understanding of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition principles.
4. Proficiency in NetSuite
5. Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling).
6. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

Skills/Competencies

1. Expertise in accounting - Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliations, review journal entries and flux explanations.
2. Knowledge of field organizational strategies - Proven ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment. Successful decentralized team management and situational responsive decision making.
3. Strong communication and presentation skills - Demonstrates strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships. Ability to create and present reports.
4. Computer skills - Working knowledge of MS Office suite, Google applications and NetSuite. Able to generate business correspondence, create forms and generate reports as required. Knowledge of innovative AI tools and applications and how they can streamline accounting processes is a plus.
5. Practices professionalism and integrity in all actions - Demonstrated ability to foster concepts of teamwork, cooperation, self-control, and flexibility.
