About the Role We are seeking an experienced Non-QM Underwriter to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for analyzing, evaluating, and underwriting mortgage loan applications outside of standard agency guidelines (Non-QM). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, decisive, and knowledgeable in alternative documentation programs such as bank statement, DSCR, 1099, P&L only, and ITIN loans. As part of a fast-paced wholesale mortgage environment, the Non-QM Underwriter will partner closely with Account Executives, brokers, processors, and credit/risk teams to ensure loans are underwritten accurately, timely, and in compliance with investor and company guidelines. Key Responsibilities Review and underwrite Non-QM mortgage loans including Bank Statement, DSCR, P&L Only, 1099, ITIN, and other alternative documentation products. Analyze credit, income, assets, collateral, and borrower qualifications to determine loan eligibility. Ensure loans meet company credit policies, investor requirements, and regulatory compliance standards. Provide clear and timely communication to Account Executives, brokers, and internal staff regarding loan decisions, conditions, and guidelines. Render sound underwriting decisions with the ability to document and support risk assessments. Identify and elevate exceptions when warranted, balancing risk with business objectives. Stay current on Non-QM product updates, secondary market changes, compliance regulations, and industry best practices. Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, service, and loan quality. Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, with at least 2 years focused on Non-QM products. Deep knowledge of alternative documentation loan programs (Bank Statement, DSCR, P&L Only, 1099, ITIN, Asset Utilization, etc.). Proficiency in AUS systems (DU, LP) Strong understanding of federal, state, and investor compliance guidelines (ATR/QM, TRID, RESPA, TILA, HOEPA, HMDA, etc.). Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and risk assessment skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven wholesale lending environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with sales and operations teams. DE/LAPP/SAR designations a plus but not required.
