Minimum Qualifications: Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Position Summary: This is the entry level position for a candidate with no formal training and limited trades experience; “Learn on job” or “On the job Training.” An employee allocated to this class of work assist journeyman with constructing and installing sheet metal fixtures as gutter, downspouts, vents, flashing’s, and ducts. Work assignments are received through oral and written instructions given before and during the progress of a job. Most work is performed under the supervision of appropriate supervisory personnel. Major repairs and completed jobs are subject to review through observation of results and by checking for compliance with specifications and accepted standards of workmanship. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Entry Level Ability to Assistant/Collaborate Possess a service-oriented temperament Able to complete work requests, fill out work order forms, and have a good working relationship with others Knowledge of the occupational hazards of tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities and mechanical and electrical building equipment Use standard hand tools and equipment as common to the mechanical trades Physical Demands: Work at heights and to work on flat and inclined surfaces and from ladders and scaffolds. Work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. hot, cold, rain, etc.). Walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, squat, lift work with hands above your head and work from a standard and/or extended ladder. Duties/Responsibilities: Assist journeyman with laying out patterns on metal, forms, shapes and fabricates light or heavy-gauge sheet metal to produce such equipment as ventilation and air conditioning ducts, gutter, downspouts, boxes, pails, containers, tanks, roof structures, flashings, smoke pipes, sky lights, kitchen hoods, and tables. Percentage of time: 30 Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with leaks on roofs and replace sections of damaged metal roofs. Fastens metal flashings on edges of roofs. Percentage of time: 30 Duties/Responsibilities: Make chicken feeders, rat cages, water troughs, square pans, and other sheet metal fabrications. Fabricates items from galvanized steel, stainless steel, cooper, aluminum and other types of sheet metal. Percentage of time: 20 Duties/Responsibilities: Installs exhaust fans, air handling units, and heating units.
