Registered Nurses For Emergency DepartmentThe James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH) is seeking energetic and dedicated Registered Nurses to join the Emergency Department (ED) team. Candidates should be passionate about fast-paced, patient-centered care and committed to supporting veterans in urgent and emergent situations. The ED offers opportunities to work with diverse clinical cases, collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, and contribute to high-quality emergency services within a major VA healthcare system.Duties include, but are not limited to:Perform rapid triage and initial assessments for patients presenting with emergent, urgent, or complex conditions in a fast-paced environmentProvide immediate stabilization and emergency interventions such as airway management, cardiac monitoring, IV access, and medication administration.Respond to and participate in critical events including Code Blue, Rapid Response, stroke alerts, and trauma activations.Continuously monitor patient conditions, interpret vital signs, recognize deterioration, and initiate appropriate interventions.Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and social workers.Administer medications safely, including high-alert medications, following VA policies and emergency protocols.Utilize advanced nursing skills such as EKG interpretation, wound care, splinting, and management of specialized equipment (e.g., infusion pumps, cardiac monitors).Prioritize care based on patient acuity, clinical judgment, and rapidly changing ED conditions.Provide patient and family education regarding care plans, discharge instructions, prescriptions, and follow-up needs.Ensure timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record and maintain compliance with VA charting standards.Maintain strict adherence to infection control, patient safety, and emergency preparedness procedures.Assist with patient flow management, including bed placement coordination, safe transport, and discharge processes.Participate in department quality-improvement activities, audits, safety initiatives, and staff development programs.Serve as a resource for less experienced staff and contribute to a supportive, teamwork-oriented environment.Demonstrate emotional resilience, professionalism, and sound judgment during high-stress and high-volume patient care situations.Follow all VA policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines related to emergency nursing careVA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total RewardsPay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awardsPaid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryWork Schedule: Rotating shifts to support 24/7 Emergency Department operations, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.Compressed/Flexible: AvailableTelework: Not AvailableVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedEDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive.
