Worship and Congregational Care Pastor
Position Overview
The Worship and Congregational Care Pastor at Southview Baptist Church will not only plan, schedule, and lead corporate worship services but will also shepherd the people of God as they engage in worship throughout the course of day-to-day life (Romans 12:1-2). In a corporate setting the worship pastor will oversee lyrical and musical arrangements that are doctrinally sound. At the individual level, the Congregational Care pastor will meet with congregants for the purposes of pastoral counseling to encourage, admonish, and strengthen them both in and out of times of personal crisis. Both of these roles involve recruiting, training, and equipping teams of volunteers and systems as they grow these effective ministries for the glory of Christ. They will work closely with the Lead Pastor, other pastoral staff, and ministry directors to ensure that all ministry efforts align with Southview’s vision of knowing, feeding, leading, and protecting the flock.
Key Responsibilities
Congregational Care
● Provide pastoral care and counseling to congregation members for the purposes laid out in 1 Thessalonians 5:14.
● Coordinate visitations to members in hospitals, nursing homes, and their homes as needed.
● Develop programs and resources to support comprehensive congregational care for the whole person; emotional, physical, mental and spiritual needs.
● Offer spiritual guidance and mentorship to individuals and groups within the church.
● Conduct regular follow-ups with members who are experiencing life challenges.
● Maintain reasonable confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all pastoral interactions.
● Lead and empower lay leaders and volunteer teams for care ministry, providing guidance, training, and ongoing support.
Worship Ministry
● Curate weekly corporate worship, including song selection, transitions, and musical arrangements, collaborating with the Lead Pastor to align with sermon themes.
● Plan and execute special worship services.
● Recruit, train, and pastor volunteer musicians, vocalists, and technical staff.
● Lead rehearsals and direct Sunday services from the stage (via vocals, piano, guitar, etc.)
● Manage the worship ministry budget, scheduling, and equipment.
● Oversee creative projects and artistic expressions of the church (i.e. music recording, podcast recording, video production) and any related staff.
Preaching, Teaching, and Leadership
● Provide biblical teaching and preaching as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
● Assist in developing worship and care-focused sermon series, Bible studies, and discipleship materials.
● Lead, train, and equip church members in ministry engagement.
● Participate in planning special services, weddings, and funeral services as needed.
● Join the cooperative effort of the plurality of elders.
Administrative and Strategic Responsibilities
● Work with the pastoral team to develop and implement strategies that fulfill the church’s mission and vision.
● Assist in the development of the church’s worship and care budget and ensure financial resources are used effectively.
● Maintain strong organizational skills, utilizing IT systems and tools effectively..
● Ensure that ministry initiatives are effectively communicated to the congregation and community.
● Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to a healthy team culture among church leadership.
Essential Qualifications
● Evangelical in theology, in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000 edition).
● Ability to apply biblical framework to real-life situations, helping people to follow Jesus in all circumstances through effective exhortation.
● In full agreement with the 2017 Nashville Statement (cbmw.org).
● Musical Proficiency: Strong vocal and instrumental skills with a knowledge of various worship styles.
● Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain appropriate professional boundaries
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, can relate to people from diverse backgrounds and build meaningful connections, leading with love and empathy
● Strong leadership and organizational skills.
● Ability to recruit, train, and empower teams of volunteers
● Knowledge of worship technologies and sound systems
Accountability
● Supervision: Reports to the Lead Pastor (mutual accountability; submitting to one another in love).
● Program Support: Works in collaboration with the Ministerial Staff and Laity.
● Annual Performance Reviews: Conducted by the Lead Pastor.
The Worship and Congregational Care Pastor will play a critical role in ensuring that authentic worship is continuously offered to God by the people of Southview Baptist Church.
