POSITION OVERVIEW - Manufacturing Engineer IV – CNC Programmer

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide 2nd shift CNC programming, process development, and shop floor support for large VTL, VBM, head-head Gantry 5-axis, and vertical multi-purpose turn/grind equipment (up to 2.5m).
• Generate and maintain CNC programs utilizing NX-CAM or other software, including multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and/or EDM.
• Verify new CNC programs prior to shop floor release using Vericut.
• Incorporate on-machine probing using Renishaw cycles for part and process validation, including error trapping.
• Create programs following established standards and qualified machining parameters.
• Provide CNC-related support to Manufacturing Engineers and deliver operator training during new/rebuilt machine startups and process improvements.
• Deliver daily operator support through CNC programming and troubleshooting on the shop floor.
• Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements associated with CNC machine tools.
• Generate and support workstation instructions (methods) for CNC-related issues.
• Initiate and lead process improvement projects to advance safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
• Communicate effectively with team members and work collaboratively across a matrixed organization.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

• Accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of CNC programs released to the shop floor.
• Effectiveness of process improvement initiatives on safety, quality, cost, and delivery outcomes.
• Quality of operator support and training provided during machine startups and process changes.
• Adherence to programming standards, qualified machining parameters, and verification protocols (Vericut).
• Responsiveness and effectiveness of daily shop floor troubleshooting support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

• 4+ years of experience with graphical based CAM system CNC programming; Siemens NX CAM experience preferred and will be given priority.
• Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using a CAM system (preferably NX).
• Minimum 1 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls, including sub-routine (macro), Renishaw probing routine, variable-based programming, and closed loop machining (CLM).
• Significant hands-on background as a machinist, with the ability to personally set up and prove out complex first-piece programs.
• Track record managing tight tolerances on large-format equipment (VTLs/VBMs, up to 2.5m) where part deflection, work hardening, and thermal stability are critical factors.
• Extensive experience machining nickel-based superalloys (Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy, etc.) common in Heavy Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT) or Aerospace industries.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with above-average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry.
• Experience using Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification/machine simulation software.
• Strong familiarity with multiple machine controls, including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, and Siemens.
• Demonstrated proficiency interpreting drawing requirements.
• Ability to multi-task and productively manage multiple projects concurrently.
