Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. (Demonstrated experience involving felony investigations, case preparation, evidence, interviews, and court proceedings is strongly preferred). Successful completion of a Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) approved academy (or recognized equivalent). Must possess the qualifications to obtain and maintain MPTSC certification, firearms qualification, and continued law enforcement authority to conduct investigative activities and arrests as authorized by Maryland law. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps including drive, sheets and docs. Knowledge of the geography of the county. Working knowledge of the criminal code section of the Maryland Annotated Code, of the motor vehicle section and those County ordinances which require enforcement by the Sheriff; preventive maintenance of motor vehicles; of human psychology and of report writing. Working knowledge of specialized programs; procedures and operations of local law enforcement agencies. Ability to apply police techniques and interpret departmental policies and regulations; to communicate clearly and concisely in the oral and written form; to give accurate testimony in a court of law; to handle detainees under various conditions and to use good judgment under all circumstances; Skilled in the handling of firearms and restraining devices; in defensive driving; in the interviewing of complainants and in the interrogation of suspects; in report writing. SALARY AND BENEFITS This is an Exempt position with a salary range of $56,030 to $106,456 and a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
