Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Manhasset OR. In this role the successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and management for a designated shift in a patient care unit or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings. The role supports the nurse manager in developing and sustaining an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff growth and development, and the application of evidence‑based practice to improve patient care. Collaborate with the nurse manager on interviews, ensuring appropriate selection, onboarding, orientation, education, and evaluation of employees; support clinical rotations of student partners. Evaluate personnel performance and assess practice fairly and transparently. Serve as a role model and resource for staff, mentoring, coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline as appropriate. Monitor staff attendance, ensuring appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety while promoting fiscal responsibility. Coordinate care delivery and staff assignments based on patient needs and clinical competency. Assist with scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the continuum of care. Provide direct patient care as needed to support unit operations. Offer leadership support to other units in the service. Hold self and others accountable for delivering exemplary, cost‑efficient care. Assist with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at all levels. Communicate with clarity and integrity to build trust with stakeholders. Report significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety or risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership promptly. Regularly communicate with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and unit initiatives. Participate in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging front‑line staff and incorporating shared governance principles. Support data collection with the nurse manager and interprofessional team; analyze and utilize data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics. Assist the leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, and mandated learnings for unit staff. Foster high reliability concepts within the unit and organization. Promote a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation focused on the future. Encourage staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice efforts. Lead and support the development of new insights into complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes. Exercise independent judgment in disciplinary actions, staff evaluation, approval of time‑off requests, assignment of work, and hiring decisions. Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. 2 years of experience required. Clinical certification in the patient population served or nurse leader certification. Ability to apply the nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators. Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities; ability to handle and move reasonably heavy weight. Required licenses: Registered Nurse License – NYS; Basic Life Support Certification. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing or a health‑related area. Two or more years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
