- Provide consultation and technical assistance to the Clinical Diabetes Program, Health Promotion Department, and other professional staff to help coordinate service unit wellness programs and other diabetes prevention programs.
- Help review and assess program progress and operations to identify and make recommendations for improving the quality and assess the appropriateness of community nutrition services and programs.
- Conduct nutritional assessment of clients, developing nutritional care plans with them and their families, consistent with cultural, social, and physiological requirements.
- Record information in medical records (progress notes) regarding nutritional requirements, patient progress, education, follow-up, etc.
- Report and summarize progress and activities at regular intervals and prepare periodic and special reports or projects.
- Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
- Completion a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
- Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
- Prepare reports or projects pertaining to nutrition.
- Apply established nutrition methods to provide nutrition assessments, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and groups.
- Assist with planning and carrying out nutrition activities.
- Review, evaluate and arrange to acquire suitable educational materials on basic and specialized nutrition topics.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance to help coordinate wellness programs and other diabetes prevention programs.
- Review and assess program progress and operations to identify and make recommendations for improving the quality and assess the appropriateness of community nutrition services and programs.
