Position Summary Under daily supervision from the Building Automation Team Leader, the Tech II is responsible for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting building unit controllers and Facility Management Systems. Provides detailed information to communicate design to customers, Haynes Mechanical field installation team and subcontractors. The Tech II serves as the technical resource for Controls Technician I. Controls Technician II will also be required to perform functions of preventive maintenance agreements and participate in the on‑call rotation. Requirements Minimum of 5 years HVAC Controls database integrations and sub‑system experience Niagara certification preferred, with 5+ years of related experience (additional certifications helpful) Strong working experience and knowledge of general construction industry with a focus on HVAC systems (Boilers, Chillers, RTU’s, AHU’s, and VAV’s) and building automation control Must understand controls strategies and have the ability to configure and commission building automation controls based on design and company standards Must understand communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, and Lon) with the ability to troubleshoot said protocols Strong understanding of control circuitry and wiring diagrams Strong understanding and troubleshooting inputs/outputs, networks, and communication on end devices Strong PC skills required Ability to communicate technical material to a non‑technical audience Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record Essential Duties And Responsibilities Accountable to Team Leader and field teams for quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs; participates in engineering release meeting with project field team Responsible for total system point‑to‑point operation and commissioning Troubleshoots system problems, works with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation Controls Technician II will be required to work with multiple control devices and/or third‑party devices into Niagara Performs static (stand‑alone) and dynamic (total building interactive network) software programming independently with support from Team Lead Ability to configure customer operator workstations and all required software (such as integration device data, trends, history, alarms, and graphics) Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment, such as multimeters, network terminals, and/or a laptop computer Reviews customers’ systems and points out other areas of improvement and keeps management apprised of customer concerns and issues Completes all required commissioning documentation and provides accurate information for as‑built documentation Performs site‑specific training for owner/operator on the total system and assists with turnover to service Conducts self‑study (reading, research, and practice) to improve technical proficiency (software/hardware) in the company’s product lines Communicates with Haynes Mechanical System’s Team Lead, Supervisors, Project Manager, and/or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site on progress Communicates effectively with the general or mechanical contractor, consultants, architect engineers and other sub‑contractors as required Adheres to safety standards and has a high degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety Other job duties may be assigned that are not set forth in the job description Physical Demands And Work Environment Able to lift 75 lbs from floor to waist with possible repetition Able to lift 50 lbs from shoulder to overhead Able to work with both arms above head for minimum of 5 minutes Able to carry 50 lbs for a distance of 25 feet Able to push or pull 125 lbs for a distance of 150 feet Able to climb stairs and ladders Able to carry 30 lbs while climbing stairs or a ladder Owning and operating hand tools – such as multimeters, basic hand tools, power tools, and label makers, specialty tools will be provided at the discretion of the company Able to grip and operate hand tools, power tools and safety equipment, such as chain falls Able to lift legs and step over obstacles up to 19 inches above the ground Able to perform work while in varying physical positions, such as lying on side, in a kneeling position, while standing on a ladder Able to access rooftop units and work at heights and in some cases tight or enclosed spaces Able to wear a respirator if conditions require; may have exposure to potentially harmful chemicals or materials Able to crawl for a distance of 25 feet Able to stoop, squat or kneel for up to 10 minutes at a time Vision Correctable to 20/20 with no color blindness Hearing Correctable to normal range Compensation $35‑$45/hour starting pay Haynes Mechanical is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic work environment.
