Transport Svcs Tech Lead

Job Title

Supports general business operations by providing various transportation and related support activities as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines in the Transportation Services and Administration Function

Impact of the Role

Requires full proficiency in a range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience. Completes a variety of atypical assignments. Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments. Works with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments. Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience. Performs manual tasks according to established procedures.

Essential Functions

• Operates a large or heavy truck that transports cargo to and from specified locations on time and according to schedule.
• Operates vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all DOT and company safety regulations.
• Conducts routine inspections prior to departure to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition.
• Manages appropriate cargo documentation and provides necessary paperwork upon the delivery of goods.
• Coordinates the loading and unloading of the truck, verifying cargo and ensuring items are properly stored and secured.
• Maintains contact with dispatcher to provide status updates, clarify special instructions, and notify about delays or issues during transport.

Required Qualifications

• Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
• Other: CDL-A with hazmat endorsement required

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred education and experience: Associate's Degree
• Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
• Knowledge, skills & abilities: Shipping Documentation. DOT Regulations. Loads/Secures /Unloads Cargo. Maintain Travel Logs. Transport Cargo. Vehicle Safety Checks. Vehicle Inspection.

Physical Requirements

• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
• Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
• May be requested to work a different shift.
• Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
• This position is Safety-Sensitive.

Travel Requirements

More than 50% travel likely.
