MECA Therapies is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Early Intervention (FIT) team.

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides skilled physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to infants and toddlers (birth to three years of age) with developmental delays, disabilities, neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, and other medical diagnoses.

Services are delivered in accordance with each child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and emphasize family coaching, developmental progress, and participation in everyday activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current or eligible licensure through the New Mexico Physical Therapy Board.
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel throughout assigned service areas.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.

Preferred

  • Pediatric Physical Therapy experience.
  • Early Intervention or Birth-to-Three experience.
  • Experience working with children with developmental delays or disabilities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy treatment under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Deliver therapy services in homes, childcare settings, and community environments.
  • Coach parents and caregivers on therapeutic activities that support child development during daily routines.
  • Promote age-appropriate motor development, mobility, balance, strength, coordination, and functional independence.
  • Monitor child progress and communicate treatment outcomes with the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Developmental Specialists, Family Service Coordinators, physicians, and other members of the Early Intervention team.
  • Participate in IFSP meetings, Transdisciplinary Team Consultation Meetings (TTCMs), periodic reviews, annual reviews, and transition planning as requested.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and family-centered therapeutic environment.
  • Deliver culturally responsive, evidence-based care that supports family goals.
  • Comply with all New Mexico FIT Program, IDEA Part C, HIPAA, licensing, and MECA requirements.

Caseload & Productivity Expectations

  • Maintain an assigned caseload based on regional and program needs.
  • Provide therapy services according to each child's IFSP and supervising Physical Therapist's treatment plan.
  • Meet established productivity expectations while maintaining high-quality clinical care.
  • Collaborate with supervising therapists regarding scheduling, treatment progression, and service delivery.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete treatment documentation accurately and promptly following each therapy visit.
  • Document child progress toward established IFSP outcomes and treatment goals.
  • Submit required documentation according to departmental timelines.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant records.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and documentation audits.
  • Adhere to all New Mexico FIT Program, HIPAA, payer, licensing, and MECA documentation requirements.

Professional Development

  • Physical Therapist Assistants are expected to:
  • Maintain active New Mexico PTA licensure.
  • Complete continuing education requirements established by the New Mexico Physical Therapy Board.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Remain current on pediatric rehabilitation and Early Intervention best practices.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.

Supervision

The Physical Therapist Assistant practices under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with the New Mexico Physical Therapy Practice Act and licensing board requirements.

  • Responsibilities include:
  • Following delegated treatment plans.
  • Participating in regular supervisory meetings.
  • Communicating patient progress and treatment concerns promptly.
  • Maintaining compliance with all supervision requirements established by the New Mexico Physical Therapy Board.
