Part-Time Supervising Dentist, Dental StudiesThe Part-Time Supervising Dentist, Dental Studies, reports to the Department Chair of Dental Hygiene. This position is subject to renewal each fall and spring semester. It provides instruction and supervision for dental hygiene students in clinical and/or laboratory settings. This is a part-time position, subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.What You Will DoProvide supervision to dental hygiene students in the TJC Dental Hygiene ClinicEvaluate student performance based on calibrated criteriaAssist with the preparation for all clinical/lab activities.Provide emergency care when a medical or dental emergency arises.Maintain cleanliness and order in the clinic/laboratoryFollow all clinical protocols as outlined in the Clinic ManualMaintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, BLS certification, TSBDE regulations, TJC training, and CODA standardsStay updated on clinic policies, email communications, and departmental notesVerify patient information before treatment begins; remain present and available during clinical careCoach students in patient care, documentation, infection control, and professional standardsApply consistent, equitable evaluation methods per the Clinic Manual; seek clarification as neededProvide respectful feedback, motivate students, and foster a professional learning environmentEnsure accuracy in all documentation and complete evaluations before leaving the clinicAdhere to attendance expectations; arrange substitutes when necessaryComplete required compliance training and stay current on professional development hoursAttend required meetings and fulfill assignments from the clinic coordinator, chair, or deanCommit to student success through consistent, evidence-based instructionSupport departmental goals, improvements, and initiativesCompetencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Collaboration/Teamwork, Communication (Oral and Written), Critical Thinking, Decisive Judgment, Design/Instruction, Interpersonal Skills, Leadership, Multi-tasking, Organizational Skills, Problem-solving, Time Management, Adaptability, and Professionalism in an Education Setting.Supervisory Responsibilities: Individual ContributorWork Environment: Ultrasonic sound, Indoor settings, Occasional work required outside regular business hours. Days can vary depending on the clinic schedule.Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and repetitive typing.Travel Required: Yes – Minimal 10%If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.Who You AreRequired Education: Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) or equivalentRequired Credentials/Licensures:Current Texas license to practice dentistry.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare ProviderPreferred Experience:One year of dental practice experienceTwo years of teaching experienceStrong background in teaching methodology and community healthAdditional Job-Specific Requirements:Maintain all required licensures, certifications, and memberships.Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge and experience in the teaching field and assigned teaching disciplineComply with clinic and laboratory policies and procedures.Comply with student and patient confidentiality.Follow clinic dress code and PPE standards; no phone use on the clinic floor except for urgent mattersAdditional InformationPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
