POSITION OVERVIEW

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified persons to apply for the position of Teacher of Plumbing. (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education's approval)

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the New Jersey Department of Education.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students by developing students' skills and competence in basic and advanced plumbing techniques, tools, and practices, safety protocols and an understanding of the application of plumbing principles in practical and real-world scenarios. Implements a comprehensive plumbing curriculum and maintains familiarity with district and New Jersey State vocational standards and certifications to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement and certification success. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for plumbing, translating them into practical learning experiences to develop sequential skills, challenge students, and effectively utilize instructional time. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including those with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as necessary. Evaluates student progress through assignments, projects and exams on a regular basis, and prepares progress reports. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the plumbing and educational fields by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment and materials to ensure safety protocols. Enforces all safety protocols in the classroom and lab settings. Conducts regular safety inspections of tools, equipment and lab facilities. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, hands‑on learning and student engagement. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintains required inventory records. Develops and maintains professional competence through participation in in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities. Encourages student participation in skills competitions and industry‑related events. Develops and promotes student leadership, civic responsibility and citizenship through integration of Career and Technical Student Organization activities into the curriculum and through membership and participation in conferences and competitions. Supervises out‑of‑classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals. Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff members on each pupil's progress and development. Maintains attendance accounting and performs other required business services. Develops and participates in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees. Acts as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of his/her subject area to other subject areas. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Performs other duties and tasks assigned by Supervisor.
