The Worship Pastor is entrusted with cultivating a Christ-centered culture of worship across both the Okoboji and Estherville campuses, leading with a unified vision that reflects the heart and mission of our church. As a shepherd, leader, and equipper, the Worship Pastor provides oversight for every aspect of the worship ministry, fostering consistency, excellence, and spiritual growth among worship teams at both locations. While this role may have a primary campus assignment, it is fundamentally a dual-campus ministry position. In support of our shared mission as one church in multiple locations, the Worship Pastor is expected to serve, lead, and invest in both campuses as ministry needs and opportunities arise.

Purpose

The Worship Pastor serves the church by leading the gathered worship of the congregation and shepherding the worship ministry so that Sunday gatherings become the overflow of genuine, everyday worship. Our desire is a worship ministry shaped by Romans 12:1–2. Lives offered to God, not just songs offered in a service. Because of this, the Worship Pastor's primary investment is people: forming a healthy, spiritually growing worship ministry while faithfully preparing meaningful, Christ-centered gatherings. The Worship Pastor serves as a member of the pastoral leadership team and partners closely with the Lead Pastor and church staff in helping shape the spiritual direction, discipleship culture, and mission of the church. This is a full-time pastoral role centered on worship leadership, discipleship, leadership development, and broader church ministry involvement.

Primary Responsibilities

Shepherd the Worship Ministry (Primary Focus)

The Worship Pastor functions first as a pastor to those who serve within the worship ministry at both of our locations. This includes:

• Knowing worship team members personally
• Regularly checking in relationally and spiritually
• Praying with and for team members
• Encouraging humility, unity, repentance, and Christlike character
• Helping prevent burnout and addressing conflict when needed
• Cultivating a culture where worship is understood as a whole-life response to God
• Identifying and developing future worship leaders and volunteers
• Creating pathways for discipleship, mentoring, and spiritual growth within the ministry
• Recruiting and onboarding new team members

The goal is a discipled worship community, not simply a rotation of musicians.

Lead the Congregation in Worship

The Worship Pastor leads the gathered church in actively responding to God during corporate worship. This may include:

• Guiding congregational singing (whether personally singing or directing others)
• Reading Scripture publicly
• Leading corporate prayer
• Incorporating confessions, responsive readings, and simple liturgical elements
• Helping the congregation understand why we worship, not simply how
• Equipping worship leaders and musicians to lead effectively and pastorally
• Modeling authentic worship and participation

The aim is participation and spiritual engagement, not observation or performance.

Service Planning & Creative Leadership

The Worship Pastor plans worship gatherings in partnership with the Lead Pastor and pastoral team. Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating with the preaching calendar
• Selecting songs that reinforce and support the preached Word
• Structuring clear and intentional service flow
• Intentionally connecting Scripture, prayer, song, and response
• Leading weekly rehearsals
• Planning seasonal gatherings and special services (Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, baptisms, prayer gatherings, etc.)
• Developing worship experiences that serve the spiritual formation of the church
• Evaluating and refining worship gatherings over time

The expectation is a thoughtful, cohesive gathering that supports the preaching of Scripture and fosters congregational participation.

Leadership Development & Volunteer Systems

The Worship Pastor develops healthy ministry structures that support sustainable growth at both Okoboji and Estherville. Responsibilities include:

• Building volunteer systems and leadership pipelines
• Training and equipping musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders
• Creating consistent onboarding and development processes
• Scheduling volunteers (Planning Center or similar)
• Preparing charts, keys, arrangements, and ministry resources
• Coordinating with sound, media, and production volunteers
• Improving systems and ministry organization as needed

Administrative work supports pastoral ministry rather than replacing it.

Pastoral Leadership & Church Ministry Participation

As a full-time pastor, the Worship Pastor participates in the broader life and leadership of the church. This may include:

• Participating in staff meetings and pastoral planning
• Assisting in church-wide discipleship efforts
• Supporting pastoral care when needed
• Participating in leadership development initiatives
• Helping cultivate church culture and mission alignment
• Contributing to broader ministry conversations and strategic planning
• Serving in church events, outreach opportunities, and ministry initiatives

The Worship Pastor is not simply overseeing music ministry but serving as a shepherd within the life of the church.

Musical quality matters, but spiritual leadership is the greater priority.

Worship Preparation & Service Leadership: 10–12 hrs

Staff Collaboration & Pastoral Ministry: 8–10 hrs

Seasonal Planning & Creative Development: 4–5 hrs

• Special services
• Long-term worship planning
• Ministry evaluation and improvement

(Some seasons require additional flexibility, particularly around holidays and church events.)

Qualifications

• Growing and evident relationship with Jesus Christ
• Demonstrated character consistent with biblical leadership
• Ability to lead congregational worship vocally or through direction
• Musical competency and rehearsal leadership ability
• Relational and teachable spirit
• Strong communication and leadership skills
