Position Summary:

The Maintenance Lead is expected to demonstrate strong leadership by setting the example for safety, professionalism, urgency, and teamwork. This role requires the ability to coach and mentor technicians, communicate priorities clearly, make sound decisions during equipment downtime, and hold the team accountable for completing maintenance work safely, accurately, and efficiently. The Maintenance Lead should promote a positive work environment, support continuous improvement, and take ownership of equipment reliability and team performance.

Hours: (Days) 12 hours 3/2 Rotation (Could support nights at times with notice)

Pay: $30.00 to $40.00

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and supervise maintenance technicians on assigned shifts.
  • Schedule and assign preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inventory of spare parts.
  • Coordinate with production and other departments to schedule repairs.
  • Train and mentor maintenance team members.
  • Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred.
  • 3–7 years of maintenance experience, including leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, PLCs, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Communication: Clearly communicates priorities, downtime updates, shift handoffs, and maintenance concerns to technicians, production, and management.
  • Coaching and mentoring: Develops maintenance technicians through training, feedback, and hands-on guidance.
  • Decision-making under pressure: Makes timely, sound decisions during breakdowns, emergencies, and changing production needs.
  • Team coordination: Organizes people, tools, parts, and priorities to keep maintenance work moving efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with production, sanitation, quality, safety, and other departments.
  • Safety leadership: Leads by example and reinforces safe work practices, lockout/tagout, PPE use, and hazard awareness.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of maintenance inventory control and budget management.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or other operational excellence methodologies.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and support all shifts as needed for training, troubleshooting, and operational coverage.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces as required.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, varying temperatures, noise, dust, and other industrial conditions.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:
    • Hairnet and beard net (as required)
    • Safety glasses or goggles
    • Steel-toe safety shoes (EH-rated preferred)
    • Hearing protection in designated areas
    • Safety harness (as required)
    • Cut-resistant gloves (as required)
    • Electrical Arc Flash PPE (12–40 cal/cm²) as required
    • Hard hat (as required)
  • Must be able to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
