We're looking for an experienced and energetic Sous Chef to join the Culinary Leadership team at our Glendale, AZ location, supporting a respected university dining program.

Job Qualifications:

• At least three years of culinary experience in food preparation, recipe development, plate presentation, and menu implementation
• An advanced degree from a postsecondary culinary arts training program is desirable
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in a professional kitchen
• Prior experience in a managerial position, with the ability to supervise employees and maintain quality control
• Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment, workflow, costing techniques, food ingredients, and specifications
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to train and develop staff
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand or walk continuously for up to 16 hours per day
• Availability to maintain an average workweek of approximately 55 hours as business and training needs require

Job Responsibilities:

As the Sous Chef in Glendale, AZ, you'll:

• Lead the kitchen team in the chef's absence
• Provide guidance to junior kitchen staff, including line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating
• Oversee and organize kitchen stock and ingredients
• Maintain a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verify that all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance
• Keep cooking stations stocked, especially before and during peak operation hours
• Hire and train new kitchen employees to meet kitchen and service standards
• Manage food and product ordering, keeping detailed records to minimize waste and support budgetary goals
• Supervise all food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and consistency
• Partner with the head chef to maintain kitchen organization, staff development, and training opportunities
• Verify that food storage units meet standards and remain well-managed at all times
• Assist the head chef with menu creation
• Coordinate with the restaurant management team on supply ordering, budget, and staffing efficiency
