Physical Therapist

Summary This position is located in the Physical Therapy Department within Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) at the Phoenix VA Health Care System. The Physical Therapist provides assessment and treatment intervention independently across the continuum of care and services within PM&RS, supporting Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) and Home Base Primary Care (HBPC). Basic Requirements Citizenship: Citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency: Proficient in written and spoken English Education and Experience: At least a Bachelor's degree in physical therapy with five (5) years of progressively independent experience, or Master's degree in physical therapy with two (2) years of progressively independent experience, or Doctorate degree in physical therapy with licensure Full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice physical therapy (or eligible under Grandfathering Provision if a current VHA employee) Temporary appointment option for non-licensed PTs with a supervising licensed PT Qualifications Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment Proficiency in independent evaluation and treatment of patients across a range of conditions (musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, integumentary) Ability to interpret examination findings, select appropriate tests, and integrate results into a comprehensive care plan Capacity to establish diagnoses within scope, identify interventions, and refer when clinically indicated Skill in determining prognosis, setting functional goals, and optimizing outcomes Leadership in overseeing Physical Therapy Assistants and student interns Duties Provide independent assessment and treatment to inpatients and outpatients via referrals and patient self-referral Conduct examinations and evaluations, incorporating findings with patient preferences to set treatment goals Select appropriate equipment and recommend home modifications to promote functional independence Offer clinical oversight to PTA and students, and design functional training experiences for staff and students Serve as a clinical instructor and role model for students and colleagues Perform annual competencies, maintain patient records, and coordinate interdisciplinary care Make referrals to other providers (e.g., occupational therapy, mobility clinic) as needed Represent the Physical Therapy Department at clinical and administrative meetings Assist in data entry for care plans and protocols, supporting effective patient care Work Schedule Full‑time, Friday–Tuesday.
