Correctional Case Manager (S)

Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408

This position is located at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm in Columbia, NC. Employees in this class carry a caseload of offenders, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on offender questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee for a male minimum custody facility. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, education, or recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. Effective verbal and written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders; Conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. Prepare written reports and forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various screens. Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation. Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. This position requires basic keyboarding skills and the ability to learn and use the OPUS computer system.

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.

Minimum Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
