Job Description

The E&I Technician installs, maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots instrumentation, sensors, electrical systems, and data acquisition equipment that support rocket engine test stands and launch vehicle development. This role builds and repairs wiring and cable harnesses, integrates complex sensor systems, and ensures accurate, reliable data collection in demanding test environments. The technician works closely with engineering and operations teams to interpret schematics and drawings, support test setup and verification, and resolve system-level issues that impact propulsion testing and performance.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation, sensors, electrical systems, and data acquisition equipment used on rocket engine test stands.
• Build, repair, and modify wiring, cable harnesses, connectors, and electrical assemblies to support engine and vehicle testing operations.
• Diagnose and resolve equipment and system issues to ensure accurate data collection and reliable test stand performance.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings to support test setup, system verification, and launch vehicle development activities.
• Configure and interface with data acquisition (DAQ) hardware, including PXI/PXIe and SCXI-based systems, to support test campaigns.
• Plan data collection and execute test setups, ensuring correct sensor installation, signal routing, and system readiness prior to testing.
• Perform system-level diagnostics and root cause analysis on electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools to test, verify, and troubleshoot circuits and equipment.
• Assemble wiring harnesses in accordance with IPC-620 standards, including wire terminations, connector assembly, soldering, crimping, and continuity testing.
• Pin and assemble military-style connectors, route and lace cables, and implement proper strain relief and heat shrink installation.
• Fabricate and install junction boxes, panels, and related electrical enclosures to support field instrumentation and control systems.
• Support and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motor starters, power supplies, DC-DC converters, and UPS systems.
• Integrate and condition signals from pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, silicon diode temperature sensors, flow meters, load cells, strain gauges, and displacement transducers.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to support developmental and research and development testing, including test stand modifications and upgrades.
• Follow established safety procedures while working around cryogenic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and propulsion systems in high-energy test environments.
• Document work performed, including test configurations, calibration data, troubleshooting steps, and system changes.
• Support occasional travel to other facilities to assist with project execution, testing, and cross-site collaboration.
• Adapt to changing schedules and priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical test environment.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of instrumentation or controls experience.
• Experience using test and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of DC electronics fundamentals, including Ohm's Law and Wheatstone Bridge theory.
• Proficiency in electrical and electronics troubleshooting at the component and system level.
• Hands-on experience with signal conditioning and sensor integration.
• Ability to build, repair, and modify wiring, cable harnesses, connectors, and electrical assemblies.
• Skill in soldering, crimping, continuity testing, and connector assembly.
• Familiarity with IPC-620 harness assembly standards.
• Experience with cable routing, lacing, strain relief, and heat shrink installation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows operating systems.
• Capability to perform data collection planning and test setup execution.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to climb, kneel, crouch, and perform tasks in physically demanding environments.
• Tolerance for outdoor conditions, noise, fumes, and changing schedules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace, energy, industrial automation, manufacturing, or test stand environments.
• Knowledge of sensor installation, calibration, and signal conditioning for pressure, temperature, flow, load, and displacement measurements.
• Experience developing project plans and executing technical milestones.
• Familiarity with high-reliability testing environments and safety-critical systems.
• Experience supporting developmental or research and development testing.
• Experience with data acquisition hardware configuration and interfacing.
• Knowledge of PXI/PXIe and SCXI-based systems.
• Understanding of bus architectures such as PCI, PCIe, PXI, GPIB, USB, and Serial.
• Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and motor starters.
• Familiarity with power supplies, DC-DC converters, and UPS systems.
• Experience in PLC programming and panel building.
• Experience as a panel builder or with electrical panel fabrication and integration.
• Comfort working in high-pace test environments with cryogenic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and propulsion systems.

Work Environment

The role follows a core schedule of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with 30-minute lunches, while requiring flexibility to support mission-critical testing activities. Work is primarily field-based, supporting rocket engine and propulsion test stands, and includes a combination of indoor electrical and instrumentation tasks and outdoor operations support. The environment involves high-intensity testing with loud noise, vibration, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. You will work around cryogenic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and propulsion systems, following strict safety procedures. Occasional travel of up to 10% may be required to support projects and collaborate at other facilities. The team-oriented setting emphasizes safety, accountability, and technical excellence, with a fast-paced atmosphere where adaptability and schedule flexibility are essential. Dress and personal protective equipment will align with industrial and field-testing conditions appropriate for electrical and propulsion test environments.

This is a Contract position based out of McGregor, TX.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
