Infrastructure EngineerThis is a professional (working) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select WAN and Optical related network services according to higher education system policies and procedures. The position coordinates and implements network software and hardware upgrades of varying complexity. The position troubleshoots and resolves WAN/Optical performance, connectivity, and related network problems of varying complexity. This position is based on-site and does not offer remote work options. The position is critical as it supports students and staff across all University System of Georgia (USG) and Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) institutions. The Infrastructure Engineer ensures that the technological needs of these stakeholders are met efficiently, contributing to a seamless educational and administrative experience.Responds to network service interruptions. Installs new network devices. Designs, implements and manages WAN and Optical infrastructure. Works with vendors to obtain quotes and procure parts, supplies and equipment. Schedules network maintenance. Configures and troubleshoots networking equipment. Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network capacity planning. Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and support to central office staff, USG institutions and other customers. Designs, implements, and manages enterprise data, voice, optical, and wireless networks. Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages. Performs related duties as assigned.Baccalaureate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Over three years of related experience required.Knowledge of project management principles. Knowledge of networking/routing infrastructure and protocols. Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures. Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.
