PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist III, Advising Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) (G) provides initial advising for students on grant-funded programs and certificates specific to workforce, GED or continuing education classes. Registers students in all grant-funded ContinuingEducation classes. Supports other staff by performing task orientedduties while providing clerical, analytical, administrative, andoperational support under general supervision. Work hours are split between LSC-Houston North Greenspoint, LSC-University CenterMontgomery and all other LSC campuses and off-site communitypartner locations where AEL classes are offered. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of theposition from one academic year to the next is dependent uponcontinued grant funding. Professional Development for TWC, HGAC andLSCS is required by the deadline.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Welcome,greet and provide general support to all AdultEducation and Literacy(AEL) prospective students and visitors in apolite and professional manner Advise visitors on available and upcoming orientation andtesting session dates and provides detail on eligibilityrequirements per AEL program Answer multiple phone lines,takes messages,and/or transfercallers; record messages from voicemail and return phone calls in atimely manner Registers and drops students for AEL classes including HighSchool Equivalency or GED, English as a Second Language, WorkforceEducation and Training Certificates and DevelopmentalEducation Provides students with information and proper referrals toavailable resources and services on campus Manage and reply to all departmental communications including Remind and any directed to Adult Education and Literacy in a timely manner Collects and processes necessary documents required to enrollstudents in AEL High School Equivalency or GED preparation classes;provides students with oral and written instructionsto take theTABE or Tests of Adult Basic Education exam Provide support to managers and all other AEL staff to ensureefficient operations Work with the AEL Program Manager to ensure community needs aremet Serve as a backup tester and advisor to assist current andprospective students with eligibility requirements and advising oncourse selection in a goal-driven environment Contacts students, instructors and staff regarding classcancellations or postponement Responsible for other reasonable, related dutiesasassigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards Some evenings and weekends may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
