Lactation Consultant- PT- Days @ LHAAMC

Position Objective Conducts bedside lactation rounds daily and consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems. Provide breastfeeding support and teaching to patients and families utilizing knowledge of personality, counseling skills, and family and group theory. Assess patients/families to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards and policies. Develop and individualize a breastfeeding plan of care for each mother-baby couple in accordance with established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed upon goals. Evaluate the effectiveness of the breastfeeding plan of care, making revisions and recommendations based on analysis of patient responses to interventions. Participate appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the lactation services and the maternal-child health service. Select appropriate breastfeeding‑related supplies for retail sale and for rental; oversee breast pump rentals and retail sales within lactation services. Create a learning environment for staff and patients; plan, teach, and conduct in‑service education for staff and students, including orientation of new staff. Plan, organize, and deliver lactation services to all breastfeeding patients, both in‑patient and out‑patient. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills; participate in unit shared governance according to departmental standards; establish effective collaborative relationships with other members of the health team as it relates to breastfeeding. Participate in quality assurance programs to monitor the caliber of the program; oversee the financial performance of lactation services. Educational/Experience Requirements Adherence to credentialing requirements of AAMC as stated in the nursing bylaws. Current licensure as a registered nurse by Maryland Board of Nursing or current graduate of Medical School. Required License/Certifications International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) certification Registered Nurse license (for RN applicants) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands Employees in this position will be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens. Physical demands include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
