POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Warehouse Team Lead Status: Full-time, Non-exempt Company: Host Terminals Reports to: Terminal Operations Manager Supervises: Foremen, Clerks-in-Charge, Forklift Operators, General Laborers Avondale Global Gateway is a 254-acre former shipyard on Mile 108 of the Mississippi River, redeveloped into a multimodal logistics terminal with significant warehousing and storage capabilities. T. Parker Host acquired Avondale in 2018 from Huntington Ingalls Industries and has since reestablished its iconic prominence into a model of ingenuity. Avondale Global Gateway is a historic property with four docks and over one mile of waterfront, uniquely accommodating ships, barges, rail and trucks. This facility offers immediate access to the regional and interstate highway system and is positioned at the interchange of six Class I railroads, creating the ability for cargo to be distributed in all directions. Core Principles Our people are our greatest assets Their safety is our top priority We provide exceptional service We believe every relationship is important We are detectives, understanding all activities within our markets We know today’s opportunities are tomorrow’s growth We conduct all business with integrity We build on our legacy Position Summary In this position, the Warehouse Team Lead will oversee and coordinate all workers engaged in the warehousing operations for loading and discharging of break-bulk and project cargo for vessels, rail and truck drivers. In addition, will cross train and learn about other bespoke operations in order to support peak days inside the terminal. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Advocates for proper safety through communication, administration, and compliance with all safety, operating, environmental and business procedures/standards, policies and management directives Daily operations meetings Oversee gang structuring and ensure efficiency Safety meetings before every shift Observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly. In depth knowledge of warehousing operations (inventory management, FIFO, LIFO, etc.) Work closely with terminal employees to ensure product transfers are completed in a safe and timely manner Develops skills of workers to stimulate a stronger/safer labor force Promotes teamwork and communication throughout the warehousing operation Serve as a point of contact for shift-level issues and elevate as needed Coordinate daily workflow for receiving, picking, packing, staging, and shipping Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time Monitor productivity, labor utilization, and workflow efficiency Identify hazards and report or correct unsafe conditions Document incidents, attendance, and operational concerns as required Collaborate with other departments (transportation, customer service, maintenance) Utilize WMS and DC systems to track productivity, inventory, and order status Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as pick rates, dock-to-stock, and ship accuracy Supervises workers engaged in checking and loading cargo to make sure that cargo is loaded in specified sequence in accordance with shipping instructions Perform other duties as assigned Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required Bachelor’s degree OR HS diploma / GED with 3+ years’ experience in operations including employee supervision Forklift certification Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) Knowledge of lean warehousing or continuous improvement practices Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment Self- starter with leadership, communication, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills Valid driver’s license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required Physical Requirements Must meet "fit for duty" requirements upon job offer (pre‑employment physical and drug test) The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces Must be physically fit enough to pull heavy lines/hoses, lift, carry heavy items, climb onto barges and up and down ladders. Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, wind, heat, etc.) Must be comfortable working aboard boats using heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work at protected heights up to 160 feet.
