This position supports the accurate handling, organization, and protection of medical records for individuals served at the Selinsgrove Center. The work involves coding information, maintaining files, and assisting with tasks that ensure proper documentation and confidentiality. As a Medical Records Assistant, you will perform the following duties:

• Record Maintenance: Manage, organize, and update individual records, ensuring accuracy and proper handling
• Confidentiality Compliance: Follow HIPAA rules when sharing information and support staff training on privacy practices
• Coding Accuracy: Assign International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) codes and prepare documentation needed for Medicare billing
• File Organization: Prepare, sort, and store documents in alphabetical, numerical, or chronological order
• Data Entry: Enter census information, discharge details, and other required data into designated systems
• Information Support: Provide requested record details to authorized personnel, families, or agencies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 1st shift (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications:

• One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or
• Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
