GIMC has the largest staff of all Navajo Area IHS facilities.Responsibilities:Secure a health and development history from the patient or parent;Record findings; make critical evaluations;Person or request special screening and developmental tests;Order laboratory tests and interpret the results;Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings;Make decisions with physicians concerning the medical care needs of patients;Provide direct medical care in the presence of illness or disability in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress and enhance coping ability;Provide surveillance over medical practices applied to stabilize chronically ill persons;Adjust treatment within established standing orders recognizing when to refer the patient to a physician or other health team members;Work collaboratively with physicians in the management of selected complex medical problems;When clinically engaged with a medically complex patient present the case to the physician clinic consultant for the day for proper treatment and disposition;Consult the clinic physician consultant or on-call hospitalist for patients assessed and deemed to require admission to the hospital;Participate with other health professionals and agencies involved in providing health care and services required to include immunization and disease control, environmental health and health education;Provide emergency or crisis intervention in order to stabilize a patient for transport to a higher-level facility;Provide medical care and preventive services to healthy individuals, evaluate total health care needs of patients and develops plans to meet these needs;Required information for use in program operation, quality control and other purposes (all medical record information-generated in the performance of this contract will remain the property and subject to the exclusive control of the Indian Health Service);Participate in certain medical staff committee meetings as required;Comply with all Client facility infection control and safety procedures, practices and standards;Meet all applicable Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) standards during the performance of this contract, and must be in compliance with the Service Unit's Medical Staff Bylaws;Be eligible for enrollment in the service unit's Medicare part B reassignment program;Respect the basic rights of patients, including but not be limited to personal dignity.Requirements:Certificate of Completion/Diploma from an accredited nurse practitioner program;Current, valid, unrestricted state or federal nurse practitioner license;Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other nationally recognized credentialing body as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner;Competency in family medicine, adult medicine, or urgent care medicine;Possess BLS, ACLS, PALS certification;Confidentiality of patient care and records;Credentialing by GIMC Medical-Executive Committee.
