Plan and coordinate clinical pharmaceutical programs, activities, and operations. Coordinate all aspects of clinical pharmaceutical care, including drug use evaluations and formal and informal consultation services. Provide consultative services to medical and other clinical staff. Provide pharmacy staffing services as needed and as directed by the Director of Pharmacy. Cover after‑hours pharmacy services on a rotating schedule. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with patients, staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Attend work on a regular basis and maintain a specific shift schedule, including extended shift and overtime as required. Prepare formal written and informal psychopharmacology consults, including patient interview and chart review. Collect medication histories, assess symptoms, use psychiatric/cognitive/behavioral rating scales, and perform limited physical/neurological assessment for adverse effects. Use collected data to plan, recommend, and monitor pharmacotherapeutic treatment. Participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams. Monitor patients’ drug therapy for therapeutic response, contraindications, interactions, allergies, adverse reactions, and appropriateness through medication order review, drug profile review, and communication with physicians and nursing staff. Plan and deliver educational activities for staff and patients, including continuing education events, informal talks, emails, newsletters, and medication education groups. Research and respond to drug information requests from staff and patients; provide accurate information in a timely manner. Participate in the pharmacy dispensing process: review and interpret medication orders for appropriateness, availability, cost‑effectiveness, and compliance with local policy, formulary, and applicable laws and regulations. Monitor drug distribution to ensure correct medications are dispensed and verify work of Pharmacy Technicians. Execute pharmmatic performance‑improvement activities, including planning, coordinating, and implementing pharmaceutical programs and policies responding to hospital needs and regulatory changes. Participate in pharmacy performance‑improvement planning and execution. Serve as a pharmacy staff in an after‑hours on‑call schedule. Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of principles and techniques used in pharmacy. Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy. Knowledge of psychiatric pharmacotherapy. Proficiency in operating applicable pharmacy computer software. Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting laboratory reports. Proficiency in written and oral communication. Proficiency in using a personal computer, email, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and office equipment. Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records, files, and reports. Ability to type accurately based on work requirements. Ability to review medication orders for safety and accuracy. Ability to maintain effective working relationships. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Must be registered as a Pharmacist with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Board certification or board eligibility in psychiatric pharmacy preferred. Initial Screening Criteria Two years of experience in pharmaceutical work required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in pharmacy. Must have an unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in Texas. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks—including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18‑25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state‑operated facility. Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
