Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

This role performs a variety of general labor duties within food production facilities, supporting the cooking and packaging of soups, broths, seasonings, and pet food. You will assist cooks, handle raw materials, move packaged products, and operate as a versatile team member across multiple positions to keep production running smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks in preparing dog food, soups, broths, and seasonings, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Work effectively in a hot production environment while maintaining focus on quality and safety.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds when supporting cooking operations and handling ingredients.
• Collaborate closely with cooks to mix, batch, and create food products according to specifications.
• Load and unload trucks with raw materials and finished goods as needed.
• Bring raw materials and supplies to assistant cooks to ensure continuous production flow.
• Lift and move 30+ pounds frequently while performing case packing and material handling tasks.
• Move racks of packaged soups and other products around the facility to designated areas.
• Perform case packing duties, including sorting, packing, and preparing products for shipment or further processing.
• Support utility functions by performing a combination of assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor tasks as a floater.
• Work on production lines to assist with food prep, packaging, and general labor activities.
• Sort materials and products as required to meet production and quality standards.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including proper use of smocks, hairnets, and safety glasses.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including safe lifting techniques and proper handling of materials.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support food safety and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform general labor duties in a food production environment.
• Capability to work safely and efficiently in a hot, non-climate-controlled facility.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift 30+ pounds throughout the shift.
• Experience or comfort with food preparation, mixing, and batching activities.
• Ability to support food production and packaging on a production line.
• Willingness to perform loading, unloading, and utility tasks as needed.
• Reliability in following GMP standards, including appropriate attire and hygiene.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work long shifts with overtime when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food prep or food production environments.
• Expereince in packaging, case packing, or production line work.
• Familiarity with general labor tasks such as sorting, material handling, and utility work.
• Comfort working as a floater and adapting to different roles (assistant cook, packer, loader/unloader, utility).
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
• Basic understanding of safe material handling and workplace safety practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
