Job Title: RN - Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Postpartum RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, BCR, NRP, Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and Mother-Baby skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client IV insertion and care, central line management Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams Description: The position involves caring for patients in Labor & Delivery and the Postpartum unit. Common patient diagnoses include vaginal and C-section deliveries, with occasional overflow hysterectomies. The patient-to-RN ratio is 1:3-4 for couplets. Patient care is supported by CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, and hourly rounding. Unit secretarial support is available during the day and transitions to a house-wide call system at night. Most phlebotomy is done by lab staff, and nurses may draw from central venous lines. Resource nurses are available for discharges and to assist all units. Respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is conducted in a central telemetry unit. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. Technology includes IV Pumps, medication dispensing systems, and various monitoring equipment. The unit culture is busy, but teamwork is emphasized. Candidates should be prepared to float to adult med-surg and telemetry units as needed.
