Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Department consists of a collegial faculty and focuses solely on counselor education, offering programs in three specializations at the master’s level: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Couple and Family Counseling, and School Counseling; and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education; all are accredited by CACREP. In addition, the Department offers two post-baccalaureate certificate programs: Mental Health in Children and Adolescents, and Addictions Treatment. The Department has consistently ranked in the top 10 by U.S. News and World Report for over 25 years. CED is a student-centered, full-time, daytime, in-person program. Position Summary Faculty in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development (CED) in the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro seek a colleague for a tenure line Assistant/Associate Professor with a Clinical Mental Health or Couple and Family specialization, with a particular emphasis on addictions. We are searching for a team-oriented individual who would contribute to teaching in our master’s and doctoral programs, and provide leadership and coordination for our Addictions Treatment Post-Baccalaureate Certificate. This position involves: Teaching, supervising, and mentoring students. Developing a strong, focused research agenda and pursuing external funding. Coordination and outreach activities. Program development. CED is home for graduate students with a variety of racial, socioeconomic, geographical, and cultural backgrounds. CED faculty actively mentor and advise students at both the master’s and doctoral levels. This position is a 9-month full-time position beginning August 1, 2027 . Minimum Qualifications Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program. ABD candidates will be considered if they provide evidence of degree completion by August 2027. Preferred Qualifications Training in clinical mental health counseling or couple and family counseling specializations are preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include applicants having, or being eligible for, relevant counselor credentials (e.g., LCMHC, LCAS) in North Carolina. Professional experience and expertise in addictions is highly valued.
