Law Enforcement Officer

Location This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, District 1‑Great Plains and Midwest Regions in Fort Totten, North Dakota; Fort Yates, North Dakota; and Lower Brule, South Dakota. Educational and Experience Requirements GL‑05: Three years of general experience, including one year equivalent to at least GL‑04. Or: Successfully completed four years of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and submitted transcripts. Or: Combination of general work experience and education equating to 100% of the total qualification requirement and submitted transcripts. Firearms Requirement Requires meeting initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined. Applicants with the following disqualifications are ineligible: Convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment exceeding one year. Has any outstanding warrants or is a fugitive from justice. Unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance. Adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution. Illegally or unlawfully in the United States. Renounced U. S. citizenship. Subject to a court‑ordered restraining order from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child. Convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. Maximum Entry Age The maximum entry‑age for this position shall not exceed age 37, unless you have sufficient prior federal civilian law enforcement (or firefighter, if applicable) experience or are a preference‑eligible veteran. Preference‑eligible veterans may be eligible after their 37th birthday. Must supply a copy of DD‑214 and Standard Form 15 (if applicable) and any associated documentation. Failure to provide documentation will result in loss of eligibility to receive a waiver of maximum entry‑age. If you have an approved age waiver, submit it with your application.
