Position Description
Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, Pathologist, on clinician scholar pathway with an approximate 50:50 contribution to clinical service and academic pursuits.
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications in the Translational Science & Therapeutics Division of the Fred Hutch and the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP), School of Medicine at the UW. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30]. The primary appointment will be in the Translational Science & Therapeutics Division of Fred Hutch.
The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in anatomic pathology/clinical pathology, and develop expertise in hematopathology and molecular pathology with interest and experience in pathology related to stem cell transplant and immunotherapy.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrable interest and expertise in genomics and precision oncology diagnostics in hematological malignancies
- Interest and expertise in pathology and genomics of lymphoid neoplasms
Based on the qualifications, this position could entail a leadership role as medical director of a laboratory location. The person may also have an opportunity to participate in deep immunophenotyping and cell sorting for genomic investigations. Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve the delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.

Anticipated Start Date: FY26 (February 1, 2026 June 30, 2026)
The annual base salary range for this position is from $262,223 to $295,945 for faculty hired at the Assistant Professor rank and from $298,763 to $343,279 for faculty hired at the Associate Professor rank. Pay for Faculty positions is based on a variety of factors, including degree, specialty, clinical practice and experience. This position is eligible for relocation assistance or a sign-on bonus.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a record of and primary focus in the field of pathology and biology of one or more hematological malignancies, along with an active clinical research profile demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
Applicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and be American Board of Pathology eligible or certified in anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (or foreign equivalent). Fellowship training in hematopathology (or foreign equivalent) and molecular pathology is required. Applicants need to be eligible for licensure in the state of Washington and a faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
To be eligible for Fred Hutch or University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
