Information Technology Supervisor - Desktop and Server Support Los Angeles County Sanitation District – Whittier, California, United States Job Overview Join the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts as an Information Technology Supervisor in the Desktop and Server Support Services section. In this leadership role you will supervise a team that supports critical desktop, server, and end‑user technology systems, provide technical guidance and mentorship, oversee technology solution implementation, and collaborate with other IT leaders to deliver high‑quality support across the Districts. Location Facilities Planning Department, Information Technology Section, Desktop and Server Support (Customer Services) Group, Joint Administration Office, Whittier Essential Functions Supervise and provide organization, leadership, technical guidance, direction, and mentoring to the Desktop and Server Support group. Job Summary Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, the incumbent will: Monitor, manage, and report on the performance of the Desktop and Server Support Group. Collaborate with other IT Supervisors to ensure consistent service delivery across the organization. Oversee the evaluation, implementation, and administration of new technology solutions. Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentoring to staff. Participate in the selection, motivation, evaluation, and discipline of staff. Ensure staff are trained and equipped to perform their duties, and continually update training requirements to align with evolving technologies and platforms. Assist with ongoing planning and implementation of projects in the IT Strategic Plan. Assist in the preparation of annual operations and maintenance and capital improvement budgets. Manage approved projects to ensure effective budgetary and resource utilization, and on‑time completion. Review and approve hardware, software, and services purchase requests. Assess budget and technical requirements for IT Group projects and prepare associated job plans. Facilitate customer outreach, providing regular project status updates, and customer health checks. Supervise the evaluation and selection of consultants and vendors. Assist in the development and enforcement of IT policies, procedures and standards. Minimum Qualifications Valid California Class C driver license and: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. AND one (1) of the following: Option 1: Status as a Supervising Systems Analyst with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. Option 2: Four (4) years of experience as a Senior Systems Analyst with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. Option 3: Six (6) years of experience performing professional‑level IT work involving IT project management, IT services management, network management, IT infrastructure management, software development management, IT service desk management, IT cybersecurity management, or other relevant domains. At least one (1) of the required six (6) years of experience must be in a supervisory capacity. Note: A master’s degree in computer science or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required non‑supervisory experience. Desirable Qualifications Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 Certification. Prosci Change Management Certification, or a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in organizational change management. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, issued by the Project Management Institute. A minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a Microsoft 365 tenant, including responsibility for licensing, billing, security configuration, monitoring, identity and access management, compliance features, and governance controls. Information Technology Asset Management (ITAM) Certification, or a minimum of five (5) years of experience in IT asset management, including: Development and maintenance of an IT Service Management portfolio. Knowledge of public‑sector or government hardware lifecycle management practices, including procurement, inventory control, deployment, maintenance, and disposition. Assessment Criteria Knowledge of principles, policies, and practices of supervision and training. Knowledge of IT principles, systems, and technologies related to network administration, cybersecurity, software development, IT infrastructure, services delivery, IT contract and vendor management, and project management. Knowledge of current industry trends. Knowledge of technical report writing and business correspondence. Ability to motivate and inspire staff, provide clear guidance and instructions, resolve conflicts, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non‑technical individuals, think critically, troubleshoot complex technical issues, adopt new tools and technologies, stay updated with latest industry trends and emerging technologies. Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects successfully, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines. Benefits Retirement: CalPERS defined‑benefit formula of 2% @ 62, with a 7.75% Medicare contribution. Classic member option of 2% @ 55 available for qualifying employees.
