Small Animal Internist - Carolina Veterinary Specialists

Position Overview Carolina Veterinary Specialists (CVS) in Matthews, NC is seeking a dedicated Board‑Certified or Residency‑Trained Small Animal Internist. This role focuses on providing high‑quality veterinary care to a broad patient base while collaborating with a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff. The position requires fluid communication with clients and internal staff, adherence to controlled substance protocols, and active participation in hospital management and practice improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups. Communicate and educate clients regarding care plans. Maintain accurate medical records. Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols. Promote teamwork and staff efficiency. Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations. Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge. Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to ensure high standards are upheld. Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university. 1‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER (university or large referral practice). Completed a 3‑year, AVMA‑approved residency program. Current State Veterinary License. DEA registration must be obtained and maintained. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care. Excellent communication skills with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff. Client communication skills, including rapport building and explanation of care. Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets. Capacity to perform tasks involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board Certification. 2–5 years of experience post‑residency. Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skill in examination and assessment of animals, including cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other relevant examinations. Problem‑solving ability to address challenges in managing a high‑quality veterinary hospital. Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff. Professionalism and ability to provide and receive constructive criticism. Business acumen related to the management and finances of a veterinary hospital practice. Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient decisions. Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others. $150,000 — $275,000 USD
