POSITION SUMMARY:
The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting the HR Director and Chief People Officer in the day-to-day tactical execution of HR duties for the Seattle Indian Health Board at Thunderbird Treatment Center. The HR Generalist develops relationships across the organization to deliver value-added services to managers and employees, advising them on various HR policies and issues. The HR Generalist position can be quite complex. A successful Generalist will be able to manage work schedule and adjust according to conflicting deadlines and priorities. This person should have a solid understanding of complex HR laws and regulations and be able to apply them consistently and fairly. This person must have a calm and professional demeanor and must treat all HR information with the highest level of confidentiality. The HR Generalist is crucial to Seattle Indian Health Board in many ways. This person is often the face of HR to the organization and is instrumental in carrying out our vision.ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Recruitment & Onboarding Supports organizational recruitment efforts by posting job openings across platforms (UKG Ready, Indeed, Indian Health Service, etc.). Administers new hire processes, including preparation and sending of offer letters, completion of onboarding documentation, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Coordinates onboarding for all new hires – both full-time and temporary employees – ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and compliant employee experience. Maintains and updates onboarding checklists, orientation materials, and new hire documentation to reflect current policies and procedures. Employee Relations Partners with HR Program Director and Chief People Officer to support and implement HR program initiatives across the agency. Provides day-to-day guidance and support to supervisors and managers on employee relations matters, including performance management (PIPs, Disciplinary Warnings, etc.), conflict resolution, and interpretation of HR policies and procedures. Addresses employee relation issues in a timely and professional manner, escalating complex or high-risk situations to the HR Director and Chief People Officer as appropriate. Supports the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and procedures, ensuring managers and staff are informed of updates and changes. Assists in workplace investigations, including gathering information, interviewing relevant parties, documenting findings, and supporting recommended corrective actions. Leaves & Accommodations Administers all leaves of absence in accordance with FMLA, ADA/ADAAA, USERRA, Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML), and organizational policy. Manages the end-to-end leave process, including notices, certifications, leave tracking, payroll coordination, and return-to-work documentation. Facilitates the interactive process for reasonable accommodation requests, collaborating with employees, supervisors, and HR Director. Maintains accurate, confidential leave and accommodation records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable recordkeeping requirements. Educates managers and supervisors on leave rights, accommodation obligations, and sensitive situation handling. HRIS & Records Management Processes all employee data and personnel changes in UKG Ready, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Maintains personnel files per records retention policy, ensuring proper separation of medical, I-9, and personnel records. Conducts regular audits to identify and correct data discrepancies across HR systems Generates standard and custom reports to support HR analytics, compliance reporting, and leadership requests. Coordinates with Payroll to resolve data discrepancies and ensure accurate processing. Assists with preparation and submission of required compliance reports (e.g., EEO-1, OSHA 300 Log). Benefits Administration Supports the annual open enrollment process, including communications, informational sessions, and employee elections. Serves as the first point of contact for employee benefits inquiries; processes qualifying life event changes. Coordinates with benefit carriers and the HR Director on plan administration and vendor issues as needed. Assist with correcting benefit discrepancies and participate in the reconciliation process. Administers the provider privileging and credentialing process, maintaining accurate and compliant records in collaboration with the HR Director. Collects and verifies required documentation, including licenses, certifications, and background checks. Tracks renewal dates and proactively initiates re-credentialing to prevent lapses; coordinates with the Credentialing Committee and clinical leadership. Requirements 2–3 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in a generalist capacity. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, HIPAA, OSHA, Washington PFML). Experience administering leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, and employee relations matters required. Experience with HRIS systems, preferably UKG Ready. Experience in a healthcare, tribal, or federally regulated environment strongly preferred. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Solid analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make sound decisions. Effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity, professionalism, and discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong recordkeeping and documentation skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Preferred: Experience working in a Healthcare HR department. Previous experience with Credentialing, UKG, and SharePoint a plus. Experience working with the unique social issues facing American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) and the desire to promote the delivery of appropriate health services to this population.WORK ENVIRONMENT
