Infectious Disease Physician

The position involves inpatient and outpatient infectious disease care. The candidate will have educational responsibilities for Infectious Disease fellows, Internal Medicine residents and medical students. Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license in any state and must qualify for an academic appointment at Wayne State University. Applicants must be board certified in Internal Medicine. Infectious Disease board certification is desirable.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Provide medical care for patients on the Infectious Diseases Service in cooperation with mid-level providers and other ID staff.
• ID physician will evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with infectious diseases.
• Provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with unit policies.
• Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. This will include off tour (on call) duties.
• Will be responsible for consults and progress notes for the official record of the Veterans health care and will assist in the consultation and follow-up of patients admitted to the facility. Will review medications, participate in patient education and coordinate with other services in the medical center as needed.
• ID physician will provide assistance to the Infectious Disease Section Chief with regard to other duties that may be requested. These may include, but are not limited to, assisting in data assimilation for VA reports, per review activities, quality improvement programs (QI), outpatient antibiotics (OPAT), Infection Control (IC), Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP), or others as determined by the Infectious Diseases Section Chief.
• Will be expected to take an active role in the education and training of Medical Students, Residents, and ID Fellows. This will include formal lectures and clinic and bedside teaching and will be responsible for appropriate completion of medical records, notes, etc., done by those being supervised.
• It is expected that the ID physician will be an active participant in the research activities of the ID section.
• Proficiency in procedures including dressing changes, superficial abscess drainage, throat & rectal swabs, anal paps, etc.
• Reviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/ collates results to coordinate patient care.
• Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care.
• Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy. All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion.
• Clinical practice, supervising and teaching fellows, residents and medical students in the specialties of Infectious Disease/ Internal Medicine.
• This physician is responsible for providing consultation on various forms of infectious diseases, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Also, assist in meeting goals for consult completion.
• Participation in appropriate subspecialty committees as needed by the facility including but not limited to Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP).

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:30pm; subject to change based on needs of the service; may include weekends and/or holidays.
