FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC)

You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC) in the FIRE PROTECTION BRANCH, OPERATIONS SECTION of MCLB ALBANY GA.

Duties

Help

  • You will calculate a patient medication dose according to external factors (e.g., potential interaction with other medications, concentration of drugs, patient weight, method of delivery).
  • You will administer medications and solutions via different methods (e.g., oral, intravenous, rectal, intramuscular, sublingual, endotracheal under the direction of protocols or a physician) to treat patients.
  • You will assess a patient systematically to identify the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient's condition.
  • You will develop a strategy for approaching a hazardous release site.
  • You will use mobile or portable radio equipment to communicate with an emergency communications center or hospital emergency room to relay patient's medical condition.
  • You will oversee required preventive maintenance on structural vehicles, and tools (e.g., saws, ground ladders, fire hose, harnesses) to ensure operational readiness.
  • You will perform safety and maintenance inspections and minor repairs on emergency and transport vehicles and equipment.
  • You will drive an emergency vehicle (e.g., ambulance, rescue, engine, aerial apparatus) to an emergency services incident.
  • You will serve as the driver-operator of one or more types of firefighting vehicle.
  • You will combat fires in difficult and dangerous environments (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, or fuel tanks).

  • Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements:
  • Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Information on exceptions and waivers:
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid Georgia state driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays) and rotating shift work.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to work hours and conditions that are in close contact with Supervisors and coworkers for long periods of time (24 to 72 hrs.)
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as a Firefighter (Paramedic) extinguishing fires, conducting search and rescue operations, performing invasive and non-invasive emergency procedures as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) such as emergency medical responses, treatment, and transportation of the sick or injured.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You must possess a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Hazardous Material Awareness, Hazardous Material Operations, and Hazardous Materials Technician.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program.
  • You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements.
  • You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER I by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER II by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC) or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardio Pulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • You may be subject to mandatory recall during destructive weather, major incidents, or any other time determined by the command.
  • You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined workspaces.
  • You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions.
  • You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions and traumatic injuries.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered.
  • You must be able to work under emergency conditions giving clear, definitive instructions, in a decisive manner to firefighting forces and other emergency service personnel.
  • This position is performed indoors, outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and is subject to heat, cold, smoke, wind, humidity, and stress.
  • This position requires the use of specialized protective clothing and respiratory protection.
  • This position is subject to exposure from hazardous materials that include chemicals, fuels, biological agents, radioactive particles, and explosives.
  • The provision of Advanced Life Saving (ALS) Emergency medical services exposes to such hazards such as infections or contagious diseases.
