FLEET AND FACILITIES SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION

Under general direction, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of staff performing repair and maintenance work on revenue buses and non-revenue fleet vehicles, passenger amenities, owned/leased facilities, and equipment; provides detailed procedures to employees and responds to technical questions from employees; inspects, repairs, maintains, and purchases parts and supplies associated with repairs and maintenance of the fleet and facilities; develops, implements, and monitors safety and performance training for assigned staff; ensures vehicle safety and readiness; provides complex staff assistance to management staff in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the Transit Program Manager. Exercises direct supervision over technical staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is a full supervisory-level class that exercises independent judgment on diverse and specialized facility and vehicle maintenance activities with accountability and ongoing decision-making responsibilities associated with the work. Incumbents are responsible for the administration, planning, organizing, supervising, reporting, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff and providing technical support to management in a variety of areas. Performance of the work requires the use of independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines. Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, schedules, and reviews the work of staff in the Fleet and Facilities Division; trains staff in work procedures; assigns and manages work orders, evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively administers initial disciplinary action; participates in the recruitment, selection, and promotion of staff. Participates in the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and best practices for assigned services and programs; recommends and implements policies and procedures including standard operating procedures for assigned operations; recommends modifications as deemed appropriate. Monitors activities of the Fleet and Facilities Division work unit; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery and procedures; provides recommendations concerning process changes; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements. Participates in annual budget preparation and administration; identifies resource needs; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications; monitors expenditures; requisitions materials; approves purchases; assists with procurement processes for products and services.
