Strategic Sourcing Category Manager - Remote

Position Purpose Leads strategic sourcing activities for complex small and medium initiatives with the goal of achieving significant value including but not limited to financial impact, standardization of products and services, maintaining or improving quality and enhanced supplier service levels across the Regional Health Ministries (RHMs). Coordinates with Strategic Sourcing leadership to conduct competitive sourcing processes for direct and indirect commodities and services which typically include Request for Proposal or Request for Quotation (RFQ); activities will include but are not limited to managing several simultaneous competitive sourcing processes, complex contract negotiations of high value, and limiting exposure to the System on risk. Analyzes responses, performs cost benefit analysis, develops reports/presentations and presents/makes recommendations for initiatives with moderate risk and value. Conducts competitive sourcing and negotiation processes on initiatives with moderate risk and value, including but not limited to direct and indirect supplies, services and equipment. Analyzes responses, reviews product/service/equipment information to determine applicability, performs cost benefit analyses, develops reports and presents findings. Determines most favorable quotes and/or negotiates with vendors to obtain optimal price, terms and conditions. Supports the contracting and value validation process in the supply chain organization with regard to financial analysis, reporting and measuring of data/statistics. Utilizes strong negotiation skills to drive the lowest overall cost for the System while not compromising quality or patient safety. Has working knowledge of contract construction and the ability to review red line and draft language for discussion, maintaining a close working relationship with legal for matters requiring legal input. Maintains knowledge of the Group Purchasing Organization’s and Trinity’s contract portfolio to leverage and utilize appropriate agreements, coordinating and maintaining system compliance by optimizing these agreements. Articulates and communicates (both oral and written) supplier options per spend category based on sourcing strategies. Assists in analyses of markets to determine vendor sources and product/service availability. Compares total cost of ownership (TCO) and makes vendor recommendations to sourcing advisory teams and internal business owners. Develops fact‑based negotiations for major purchasing categories, including detailed understanding and descriptions of the product/service based on an equal comparison of offerings, price points, and supplier capabilities, and terms and conditions. Provides sourcing justification and pricing rationale based on data and facts to Strategic Sourcing Leadership for contract awards for products and services, including specifications, price structures, payment terms, risk/share arrangements, service requirements/penalties and warranty coverage. Completes business review and documented sign‑off with Legal, Risk Management, IT and others as may be applicable to ensure adherence to sourcing processes and procedures, thereby limiting the organization’s risk in contractual arrangements. Shares research and market information with stakeholders regarding the product or service category. Prepares written communications for current and potential product/service/equipment providers to engage stakeholders, management team, internal and external customers, ensuring engagement in decisions and resolutions. Performs duties within established departmental service level goals and established timelines. Partners with Finance department to ensure that forecasted savings are validated. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honesty, ethical and professional behavior. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of strategic sourcing and demonstrated ability to perform financial analysis. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or clinical discipline AND 5 (five) years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Appropriate technical certification (i.e. CQM, CPM, CPIM) desirable. Comprehensive knowledge of data analysis, purchasing practice, pricing structure, products and services, vendor relationships, and market analysis for trends. Understands Lean Manufacturing/Operations and technical problem‑solving concepts and techniques. Ability to prepare specifications for RFIs, RFQ’s and RFPs. Strong analytical skills including ability to construct and execute multiple complex analyses (e.g. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Economic Value to Customer (EVC), Net Present Value (NPV)) simultaneously and translate implications into preliminary recommendations. Ability to perform cost‑benefit analysis and prepare reports/charts/graphs that concisely present interpretations of information for stakeholders. Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills required. Knowledge of an ERP application is preferred. Demonstrated ability to identify problems, make recommendations/decisions, and implement solutions. Capabilities to investigate, analyze and resolve moderately complex issues and produce effective verbal and written communications in support of business goals. Strong problem‑solving skills with ability to research problems and present findings. Knowledge of contract law and governing regulation. Ability to review supplier relationships, renegotiate supplier contracts, and identify and develop supplier process improvement initiatives. Capability to understand customer and stakeholder businesses at the financial, operational and business impact levels. Solid customer service qualities along with excellent interpersonal skills. Proven prioritization and coordination skills, strong organizational skills and high level of initiative with the ability to meet strategic sourcing project goals and timing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain productive and positive working relationships with all stakeholders and external suppliers. Comfortable with conflict, along with a willingness and desire to challenge conventional thinking from all levels throughout the organization including senior level management. Ability to manage multiple priorities and multi‑task within a fast‑paced environment. Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Ability to work effectively in a large, multi‑level, geographically dispersed organization. Demonstrated knowledge of applications and software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and use of generic web applications. Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health sites (20%) as needed. Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
