SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist, receives clinical training and supervision in the delivery of professional mental health services. This role involves conducting assessments, developing care plans, and providing therapeutic or case management support to individuals, families, and groups. The Associate Mental Health Counselor (AMHC) addresses mental health and social needs while progressing toward full licensure and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to promote client well-being through evidence-based, trauma-informed care.

DUTIES

• *Conduct client intakes and psychosocial assessments.

• Develop treatment plans and support goal tracking.

• *Provide ongoing counseling and supportive psychotherapy to individual, family, and group counseling under supervision.

• Complete crisis intervention and safety planning when needed.

• *Maintain clinical documentation according to agency standards and legal requirements.

• *Assist clients with crisis support, referrals, and other community resources/providers.

• Collaborate with supervisors and treatment teams.

• *Participate in regular clinical supervision, consultations, trainings, and interdisciplinary meetings.

• Adheres to all legal, ethical, and agency standards, providing services in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and the Board of Psychology (BOP).

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles, procedures, techniques of clinical and casework services, counseling, and treatment.

• Principles of mental health conditions and therapeutic interventions.

• Theories of addiction and dependence factors that contribute to substance abuse

• A wide variety of therapeutic and treatment approaches for persons with mental and emotional problems.

• Scope of availability, and activities of community resources, including other mental health and social service agencies.

• Current trends in mental hygiene, mental health, public health and social services, including State and Federal programs in these areas.

Ability to:

• Develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of mentally and emotionally disturbed clients and families.

• Perform skilled counseling

• Develop and implement treatment plans

• Maintain HIPAA guidelines

• Interact with a professional attitude toward clients.

• Organize data, develop information, and prepare clear, concise, comprehensive records and reports.

   

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers and those contracted with the agency.

   

• Ability to work under supervision in a clinical setting.

• Work alternative hours and shifts pursuant to operational needs as determined by Management.

REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess:

• A master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a behavioral health-related field.

• Current California BBS registration or eligibility as an APCC or ASW, or ability to obtain registration within 90-days from graduation.

• Strong communication, assessment, and documentation skills.
