Summary:North Central Family Medical Center is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing affordable, accessible healthcare and pharmacy services to patients of all ages with locations in Rock Hill and Chester.

Performs duties as delegated by the medical provider which enable the efficient flow of patients andassistsin the provision of quality health services.Primary responsibility is toassistin the assessment and care of patients within the scope oftraining limitations. May perform limited exams, take vital signs, and perform laboratory tests within regulatory limitations.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

• Prepares patients to beseen by the provider

• Performs routine procedures and notifies provider if vital signsare outside established ranges

• Completesappropriate developmentaland risk screening

• Appropriate use of EMR including messaging, scheduling appointments, review of labs/notes and history documentation

• Documents chief complaint, medication list, social history, family history, medicalhistoryand surgical history in EMR

• Notifies medical provider if chief complaint is chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, slurred speech, fainting or other potentially life-threatening complaints.

• Documents all observations/procedures/services in EMR

• Assistsmedical provider with procedures such as gynecological exams, pap smears,suture removal, colposcopy, limbstabilizationand joint injections

• Completes tasks as ordered by provider (EKGs, Nebulizer treatments, IM injections, vaccinations, UNNA boot application, PPD testing, etc.)

• Collects specimen and/or performs laboratory services asindicatedby chief complaint or follow upindication

• Escorts patients toappropriate areassuch asexamroom, lab,and cashier desk

• Provides wheelchair if patient requests or mobility limitationswarrantsan assistive device

• Maintains duties and responsibilities within the MedicalAssistant scope of practice

• Cleans andmaintainsequipment ;whichincludes the use ofthe autoclave for sterilization

• Stocksexam rooms with paper and supplies daily

• Checks room after every patient use and prepares for next patientbycleaning surfaces withappropriate disinfectantwhen soiledand at the end of every session

• At close of day, pullsexam paper, cleansthe examtableand leavesthe room prepared for the next day

• Keeps nurses station stocked withappropriate forms,suppliesand equipment

• Covers during times of staff shortage as needed, includingworking in other departments and travel to other sites

• Staggers lunch times with co-workers

• Greets patients pleasantly with Medical Assistants name and role

• Maintainspatient flow beginning with the first patient appointment to the last

• Intentionally movesthrough providers schedule of the day, making constructiveuseofsmall timegaps, adjusting to schedule changes, room availability,delaysand no-shows

• Prepares the patientto be seen by provider via face-to- face,telehealth/phone visit or Martti

• Callsto reschedule patients when provider is out of office

• Maintains confidentiality of all patient informationutilizinglow voicein nurses station, privacy of conversation, protected monitor screens according to HIPPA standards

• Dispose of used needles and expired medications properly per NCFMC medical and pharmaceutical waste policies

• Activelyparticipatesin annual performance evaluations, competencyreviewsand in-services

• Complete organizational education through Relias, as assigned

• Correctly wearsPPE when caring for patients

• Activelyparticipatesin daily huddle

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

• Graduate of an approved school or training program for MOArequired

• Prior experience working in an ambulatory health care setting such as an emergency room or an outpatient clinic is preferred

Certificates and Licenses:

• CMA or RMA certification by certifying body such as AAMA, NCCT or AMT

• CPR certificationrequired

• Basic Life Support certification

Knowledge,Skillsand Other Abilities:

Basic clinical knowledge to include preparing patients for provider visits and understanding routine protocols isrequired.Basic knowledge of common office equipmentrequired.Equipment to be used includes laboratory equipment, EKG machine,audiometerand autoclave
