Job Summary: Responsible for providing evaluation and treatment upon physician referral to a patient population consisting of varying diagnosis. Assess, identify and treat all areas of deficits impacting leisure, social interaction skills, community resources and community re-entry. Provides instruction and education to the patient/caregiver to promote the safe execution of the facilitator techniques taught.

Job Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes and coordinates recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education.
• Interviews the person served to assess capabilities/interests/barriers.
• Monitor progress and recommends changes modifications to program as required.
• Plan and implement interventions to prevent harm to a patient.
• Engage and instruct patients in therapeutic activities, such as games, sports, crafts, music, and group activities.
• Observe, analyze, and record patients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed.
• Consult with physicians and other members of the rehabilitation team regarding therapeutic recreation goals for program referrals.
• Coordinate activities with staff/rehabilitation team and participate in care planning meetings.
• Assess patients' needs through observations, medical records, tests, and talking with other healthcare professionals, patients' families, and patients.
• Create treatment plans and programs that meet patients' rehabilitation needs and interests.
• Confer with members of treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
• Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and patient assessments.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy is required
• Experience in an acute care, extended care, rehabilitation, mental health, or outpatient setting
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
