About the Role: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities by providing compassionate and personalized care. This position involves supporting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and fostering community integration. The DSP collaborates closely with families, healthcare providers, and other team members to implement individualized care plans that meet each client’s unique needs. Through patience, empathy, and professionalism, the DSP helps clients achieve their personal goals and maintain their dignity and well-being. Ultimately, this role is essential in creating a supportive environment that empowers individuals to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid NJ driver’s license (or be able to obtain one within one month of hire date) Ability to pass background checks, physical and drug screenings as mandated by state and federal regulations. Basic knowledge of health and safety standards related to caregiving. Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role. Certification in CPR and First Aid. Training or coursework related to developmental disabilities or behavioral health. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively. Familiarity with electronic documentation systems and care management software. Responsibilities: Assist clients with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility support. Implement individualized support plans by following specific instructions and adapting to the evolving needs of each client. Encourage and facilitate community participation and social interaction to promote independence and inclusion. Monitor and document client progress, behaviors, and any changes in health or well-being, communicating effectively with supervisors and healthcare professionals. Provide emotional support and build trusting relationships with clients to foster a safe and positive environment. Skills: The required skills such as effective communication and the ability to follow care plans are essential for daily interactions with clients and team members, ensuring that support is consistent and tailored. Empathy and patience are critical in building trust and providing emotional support, which helps clients feel valued and understood. Organizational skills are used to accurately document client progress and manage time efficiently across multiple responsibilities.
