Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

The Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with various medical needs, including cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and infection management. This role involves monitoring patient progress, administering medication, and effectively collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct nursing care in accordance with established standards and practices.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, including ECG readings.
• Perform phlebotomy and initiate IV therapy as required.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Engage with patients and their families, providing education and support.
• Participate in rapid response teams and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
• Maintain compliance with isolation precautions and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in a medical-surgical or telemetry unit.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Strong skills in the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Ability to work with various medical equipment, including telemetry units and EKG machines.
• Must be willing to float to other units, including stable ICU and acute brain injury patients.

Work Schedule

This position requires 3 shifts of 12 hours per week, primarily during the day. Weekend shifts are mandatory every other week.

Additional Information

All registered nurses are expected to demonstrate competency in phlebotomy and IV placement. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are available on the unit to assist with vital signs, EKGs, and daily living activities. The use of electronic health records and charting will take place using Epic.
