The focus is on independent, collaborative and delegated nursing functions as described in standards and competencies specific to the assigned service area. The scope of practice may include the care of neonates, infants, children, young adults, adults, and older adults throughout the life cycle. The RN executes the Standards of Nursing Practice including: assessment; nursing diagnosis; outcome identification; planning; implementation; and evaluation. The RN develops and revises the customer’s plan of care, coordinates care among disciplines and delegates activities to other customer care providers as appropriate. The RN participates in shared accountability and decision‑making for nursing practices. Through active participation in practice and by implementing personal leadership qualities and skill, the RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and the environment of care and promotes remarkable customer care. W6 Trauma and Stepdown Unit Care of diverse patient populations including but not limited to Stepdown, Trauma, Plastics, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Oral Maxillary Facial Surgery, and Medical‑Surgical. Recognizes Cardiac, Respiratory, Neurologic, Renal, Endocrine, and GI/GU risk factors, monitors for changes in patient status, and seeks out the appropriate interventions by collaborating with ancillary departments and care team members to meet the needs of the patient. Provide trauma informed care to patients following traumatic events including creating a safe, trusting, and supportive environment. Management of violent behaviors in the workplace through collaboration with the care team, leadership, and security. Collaborates with Respiratory Therapy when providing care for patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Nasal Canula, or any additional oxygen therapy needs. Monitors and responds/notifies members of the care team regarding critical laboratory findings including but not limited to electrolyte imbalances, chemistry/blood counts, abnormal blood gas results and/or drug levels. Monitors and intervenes for high‑risk patient populations including but not limited to: Stroke, MI, Drug/Medication Overdose, Shock, Sepsis, Massive & Emergent Blood Administration, and Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (organ failure). Monitors and manages a patient at high‑risk for self‑harm including suicidal patients, medical/behavioral holds, patients in restraints, and ETOH/drug withdrawal. Initiates and monitors high risk medications (continuous infusions, bolus, IV push, and titrations). This includes the monitoring of hemodynamics/vital signs, the patients’ response to treatment, and laboratory results. Requirements Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred Experience Minimum of 1 year of acute care RN experience required Demonstrated leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Additional certification preferred, as appropriate, for chosen area(s) of nursing practice (i.e., CEN, CCRN) Knowledge of professional nursing principles and practice. Knowledge of nursing ethics.
